Kansas City metro records 183 homicides in 2025. Here are the details of each killing
Fatal shootings and homicides in Kansas City declined in 2024 from a record high the year prior. However, non-fatal shootings still soared and violent crime remained at consistently high levels. Last year, there were 147 killings in the city, according to data collected by The Star, which includes fatal police shootings. Across the entire metro area, 190 people died by homicide.
The previous year — 2023 — was Kansas City’s deadliest on record. The city saw 185 killings that year, and more than 240 people died by homicide across the metro area. In 2020, the city’s second-deadliest year on record, there were 182 killings in Kansas City and 269 homicides when including surrounding cities.
This list for 2025 includes details of every homicide across the Kansas City metro area once they are reported by police. It includes when and where the victims died—and when made available—the names and ages of each victim.
The list will be updated throughout the year, with the most recent homicides at the top.
The Star counts fatal police shootings as homicides, which could mean a city’s total will differ from those kept by a city’s police department. Some homicides on the list may be judged by authorities as justifiable.
