Police find man shot to death inside vehicle in northeast Kansas City
A man found with gunshot wounds in a vehicle Tuesday night died from his injuries, police said.
Officers responded just before 8:30 p.m. to the intersection of Gardner Avenue and North Chouteau Trafficway on a reported shooting.
Upon arrival, they found a man unresponsive in a vehicle stopped near the intersection, said Officer Alayna Gonzalez, a police spokeswoman. Officers then determined the man was suffering from apparent gunshot wounds and rendered medical aid until paramedics arrived.
The man was transported to a hospital, where he was later pronounced dead, Gonzalez said.
According to initial information from police, the man appeared to be inside the vehicle when he was struck by gunfire.
As of Tuesday night, investigators were working to determine if a suspect had been in another vehicle or was on foot when the shooting took place. No other suspect information was available.
Investigators are collecting evidence and searching for witnesses.
Police have not yet publicly identified the man who was killed.
The killing is Kansas City’s 119th homicide this year, according to data maintained by The Star. At this time last year, the city had recorded 119 homicides.
