One dead, one injured in shooting at Lenexa apartment complex: Police

A woman is dead and another person is injured after a shooting at an apartment complex in Lenexa on Wednesday evening, police said.

Officers with the Lenexa Police Department responded around 4 p.m. to a 911 call about a person shot at the The Meadows Apartment Homes, an apartment building in the 7600 block of Halsey Street, according to LPD spokesperson Danny Chavez.

The shooting took place inside an apartment, according to the department. A woman was discovered with a gunshot wound to the head and declared dead at the scene, Chavez said.

Another person was taken to a hospital with undisclosed injuries, according to the department. Lenexa police did not have anyone in custody in relation to the shooting as of Wednesday evening.

The parking lots at The Meadows were closed Wednesday evening while police investigated the shooting. The apartment complex adjoins both Trailridge Middle School and Kansas College of Nursing.

Wednesday’s shooting was the third homicide reported in Lenexa since the start of 2025, according to data collected by The Star. One homicide was reported in the city last year, according to Star data.
