Update: Police identified the man who was killed as 51-year-old Jorge Grageda.

One man was killed in a shooting in a northeast Kansas City neighborhood Saturday, police said.

Officers responded just after 5 a.m. to the 100 block of North Bellaire Avenue on a reported shooting. They were directed to the back of a home where they found a man suffering from multiple gunshot wounds, according to Officer Alayna Gonzalez, a police spokeswoman.

Officers provided medical aid while paramedics were en route, Gonzalez said.

Paramedics later pronounced the man dead at the scene.

Gonzalez said early investigation details lead police to believe an argument escalated to gunfire.

As of Saturday morning, no one was in custody. Detectives were making progress in identifying a suspect, Gonzalez said.

Investigators have been collecting witness statements and gathering evidence at the scene.

The killing is Kansas City’s 87th homicide this year, according to data tracked by The Star. At this time last year, the city had recorded 80 homicides.
