Police find woman dead inside vehicle after shooting in southeast Kansas City
Update: Police identified the woman as 23-year-old Jaquis Jones.
A woman was found dead in a vehicle after a shooting in Kansas City’s Blue Hills neighborhood Thursday, police said.
Officers responded just after 7:30 p.m. to E 55th Street and Wabash Ave on reports of the sound of gunshots. They found a vehicle in an alley in the middle of the block, said Capt. Jake Becchina, a police spokesman.
Inside the car, officers found a woman unresponsive suffering from gunshot wounds, Becchina said. Paramedics responded and pronounced the woman dead at the scene.
Police have not yet publicly identified the woman.
Detectives were canvassing the area for witnesses and crime scene personnel were processing the scene for evidence.
Becchina said there is no information yet available about what led to the shooting. There are no suspects as of Thursday night.
Police said they believe the shooting happened in the alley where the woman was found.
The killing is Kansas City’s 129th homicide of 2025, according to data maintained by The Star. At this time last year, the city had recorded 137 homicides.
