Kansas City metro records 246 homicides in 2023. Here are the details of each killing.
Kansas City, Missouri, saw its deadliest year on record in 2023 after the number of homicides in the city exceeded the 2020 record of 182 killings. The region as a whole that year saw 269 killings.
In 2022 Kansas City, Missouri, recorded 171. When including other nearby cities, the metro area recorded 264 homicides. The number of homicides in Kansas City has remained high for several years including 2021, which saw 157 homicides.
Now, in 2023, this list includes homicides reported this year throughout the Kansas City metro area. It includes the names of the victims as well as when and where they died.
The list will be updated throughout the year. The most recent homicides are at the top.
The Star includes fatal police shootings in this list, which may cause the total number for a city to differ from that kept by a police department. Some of the homicides on the list may be judged by authorities as justifiable homicide.

185. Terry Anthony, 45, on Dec. 31
Officers responded to a call around 9 p.m. on Dec. 29 at the intersection of 107th Street and Oakland Avenue where a man was found dead from apparent gunshot wounds.
184. Daniel Moss, 31, on Dec. 29
Officers responded to a medical call on Nov. 28 around 3:30 a.m. in the 3300 block of Askew where a man was found in critical condition from gunshot injuries. Moss was taken to the hospital and was pronounced dead by medical officials Friday evening.
183. Gerardo Acuna, 31, on Dec. 29
Officers responded around 7:30 p.m. to reports of gunfire near the 5200 block of Lyon Avenue. When officers arrived at the scene, they found a man laying in the street. Emergency Medical Services arrived at the same time as officers and began assisting the man, but eventually pronounced him dead at the scene.
182. Chelsea Williams, 31, on Dec. 26
Officers responded just after 9 p.m. to a shooting in the 2500 block of Myrtle Avenue, where people at the scene told them a family member took the shooting victim to a hospital.
On the way there, the family member called 911 for assistance. Officers and emergency medical services responded to the secondary location and took the woman to a hospital. Detectives learned several hours later that the woman had died from her injuries.
181. Nicholas West, 20, on Dec. 24
Officers responded to reported gunshots just before 10 a.m. near Eighth and Olive Streets. They found one man with non-life-threatening gunshot wounds who was transported to a hospital. Across the street, police found another shooting victim inside a parked car. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
180. Elvis Danner, 55, on Dec. 24
Officers were dispatched shortly after midnight to a wooded area in Columbus Park near First and Holmes Streets. Police found a man with bodily trauma later determined to be sustained from a shooting. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
179. Nicolas Irachata, 27, on Dec. 21
Officers were dispatched around 10 p.m. to the 5500 block of St. John Avenue on a report of gunfire heard in the area. The call was updated to a shooting as the officers were responding. Irachata was found dead of gunshot wounds on the sidewalk outside of a convenience store.
178. Melissa A. Brown, 26, on Dec. 17
Officers were dispatched to the 3500 block of Roberts Street around 7:45 p.m. when someone in the area reported hearing gunfire and notified police. The woman was driven to the fire station by a friend, who confirmed the shooting occurred outside a residence near Roberts Street. The woman was then transported by ambulance to a hospital and pronounced dead there.
177. Eric Hayden, 41, on Dec. 16
Officers responded around 11:40 a.m. to the 4400 block of Garfield Avenue. The 911 callers directed police to a nearby home, where they found the man unresponsive with a single gunshot wound. Emergency medical crews pronounced him dead at the scene.
176. Dadrien Alvarez, 14, on Dec. 15
Officers were dispatched around 7 p.m. to St. John and White avenues on a reported shooting. Responding officers were then directed to a residence where a boy was inside suffering from gunshot wounds. He was taken to the hospital and later died there.
175. Savannah R. Stipek, 20, on Dec. 9
Officers were dispatched around 9:20 p.m. to Independence and Cleveland avenues on a reported shooting near a stretch of businesses. A woman and a man were found shot near a parked vehicle there, and a third gunshot victim was located a short distance away. The woman was pronounced dead at the scene.
174. John Buckley, 50, on Nov. 30
Officers responded to a report of a medical call around 3 p.m. in the 11700 block of Troost Avenue. A man was found fatally shot inside a residence. A person of interest was taken into police custody.
173. Jaden James, 21, on Nov. 28
Officers responded to a reported shooting around 4 p.m. in the 4900 block of Heritage Avenue. A man was found fatally shot in a yard and pronounced dead at the scene. A person of interest was taken into police custody.
172. Calvin L. Boyles, 45, on Nov. 28
Officers responded to a shooting just after midnight in the 1930 block of Park Tower Road. Police located Boyles inside an apartment suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. Emergency medical crews responded and pronounced Boyles dead at the scene.
171. Derrick White, 16, on Nov. 25
Officers responded just after 3 p.m. to the 3200 block of Park Avenue and were directed to a home, where Derrick White had been shot and was unresponsive. Emergency medical crews arrived and started life-saving measures, but White was declared dead a short time later.
170. Gerald Warren, 61, on Nov. 21
Officers arrived just after 11:30 p.m. to the area of East 70th Street and South Benton Avenue, where they found a woman nearby who appeared to be suffering from gunshot wounds.
The woman was responsive and told officers about a nearby home that was hit in a shooting. Emergency medical crews transported the woman to a hospital for treatment. When officers entered the home, they found an unresponsive man with apparent gunshot wounds lying in the entryway. Officers rendered medical aid, but the man was pronounced dead at the scene.
169. Theus C. Dewberry, 36, on Nov. 18
Officers responded just after 11 p.m. to the area of 23rd Street and Lawn Avenue. Police were directed to a home on 24th just east of the intersection, where they found an unresponsive man who had been shot behind the residence. Emergency medical crews transported the man to a hospital, where he died of his injuries.
168. Richard Gonzalez, 31 on Nov. 18
Around 1:00 a.m. on Nov. 18, Kansas City, Missouri police responded to a call about a shooting in the 1800 block of Mercier. Officers found a victim, an adult male who was unresponsive in the front yard, officers said.
166. DaMarcus Houston, 17, and 167. Marquise Rose, 26, on Nov. 16
Officers responded to a reported shooting near 42nd Street and Sterling Avenue. Two gunshot victims were found in separate parking lots, roughly 200 yards from one another, in the Blue Ridge Crossing shopping center. One was pronounced dead at the scene and another died at the hospital.
165. L Jomo Wilson, 44, on Nov. 15
Officers responded shortly before 3 a.m. Wednesday to a report of gunfire in the 1000 block of Broadway and while en route the call was updated to a shooting. Once there, officers found a man lying in the street outside a vehicle. He had been shot and was unresponsive. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
164. Joseph Hill, 18, on Nov. 13
Police officers were on patrol near the 4200 block of East 56th Street when they heard gunshots coming from the area. An unresponsive gunshot victim was located in a front yard there. He was taken to the hospital by ambulance and pronounced dead after arriving there.
163. Amauri Hughes, 17, on Nov. 12
Officers responded about 7 p.m. to investigate a reported unresponsive person in the 6100 block of East 127th Street in Grandview. There, they found a teenage girl from Grandview deceased. Over the course of the investigation, Kansas City and Grandview detectives collaborated and determined Hughes was apparently killed at a home in the Noble and Gregory Ridge neighborhood near East 7 5th Street and College Avenue in Kansas City.
162. Bryan D. Hoover, 52, on Nov. 10
Officers responded to a reported “cutting” shortly after 4 a.m. to East 24th Street and Elmwood Avenue in the East Community Team South neighborhood. There, officers found a man suffering from “bodily trauma.” The victim died at the hospital.
161. Timothy Postley, 22, on Nov. 6
Officers were dispatched around 8:30 p.m. to the 900 block of East Armour Boulevard on a report of gunfire heard in the area. Responding officers saw a vehicle leaving the area that was being used to transport the gunshot victim to the hospital. The gunshot victim, a man, died after arriving at the hospital.
160. Aaron Amparan, 15, on Nov. 3
Officers responded to a reported shooting in the 6000 block of East 13th Street. An unresponsive teenage minor was found suffering from a gunshot wound near a vehicle that had struck a pole. He was taken to the hospital and pronounced dead there.
159. Mihail Martinez-Aguilar, 22, on Nov. 3
Officers responded to a Kansas City hospital about 3:45 a.m. after a gunshot victim had been dropped off. Detectives located a crime scene in the 4800 block of Independence Avenue. Martinez-Aguilar died during surgery.
158. Oshaee Leneer Spinks, 26, on Oct. 29
A shooting was reported just after 7 p.m. in the 3500 block of East 61st Street where police found a man lying in the street suffering from gunshot wounds. He was declared dead at the scene.
157. Unknown man on Oct. 26
Officers were dispatched around 10 p.m. to 57th Street and Park Avenue. A gunshot victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
156. Jo Crawford, 26, on Oct. 23
Officers were dispatched around 8:30 p.m. to a report of multiple shots fired in the 4200 block of Benton Boulevard. Police later learned a gunshot victim had been taken by private vehicle to a hospital. He was pronounced dead shortly after arriving there.
155. Courtney L. Wickman, 33, on Oct 21
Officers responding to a shooting about 10:30 p.m. found a woman who had been struck by gunfire as she exited a midtown KC business at 3835 Main Street. She was taken to a hospital, where she later died. She was not believe to have been the intended target. The suspect in the victim’s killing was found dead in Kansas of an apparent suicide.
154. Unknown person on Oct. 21
A man was found shot in a field around 10:46 a.m. near East 18th Street and Agnes Avenue. He was taken to the hospital where he died the following day, police said.
153. Roygerick L. Harris, 33, on Oct. 19
Officers were in the vicinity of East 31st Street and Woodland Avenue when a 911 call came in for shots fired in that area. Responding officers located one gunshot victim critically wounded inside a vehicle and a second gunshot victim who was declared dead at the shooting scene.
152. Ronnisha Danner, 40, on Oct. 17
Officers were dispatched around 9 p.m. to a medical call near East 65th Street and The Paseo after a person reported seeing someone on the ground. Responding officers discovered the body of 40-year-old Ronnisha Danner who had suffered apparent bodily trauma, the cause of which was not known to police. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
151. Micah Pattison, 44, on Oct. 17
Officers were dispatched to a reported shooting around 3 p.m. at East 44th Street and Montgall Avenue. A gunshot victim was found on the sidewalk by responding officers. He was taken by ambulance to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
150. Dennis Jones, 41, on Oct. 13
Officers responding to a medical call at 2:30 a.m. were summoned to a home in the 5200 block of College Avenue where they found an unresponsive man suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Emergency medical workers pronounced him dead.
149. Broderick A. Brown, 42, on Oct. 7
Police responded to a shooting just after noon at a business in the 2700 block of Independence Avenue where they found a man who had been fatally shot.
148. Philip Croft, 50, on Sept. 30
Kansas City police responded to a shooting on the 2000 block of Wheeling Ave. and found the victim lying injured in the parking lot of an apartment complex.
147. Tiffany Johnson, 42, on Sept. 29
Officers arrived at an apartment complex at 5428 N.W. Waukomis Drive to find the victim lying in a pool of blood. She died several hours later and a victim was taken into custody.
146. Wysaun Brown-Cooper, 34, on Sept. 17
Officers responded around 3:32 p.m. on Sept. 17 to the 5700 block of North Jarboe Drive, where they found Wysaun Brown-Cooper unresponsive and suffering from a gunshot wound inside a parked vehicle.
He was taken to a hospital in critical condition. Brown-Cooper, 34, later died as a result of his injuries, police said Sunday.
145. Joseph Michael Bonacorso, 18, on Sept. 24
A teen was shot and killed in the 1300 block of N.E. 119th Terrace during what police called “a domestic violence argument involving multiple family members.” A woman was also wounded. A man was taken into custody as a person of interest.
144. Ashli Ehrhardt, 29, on Sept. 22
Police responded to calls for a welfare check just after 10:30 a.m. Officers learned from an employer that an employee had not shown up for work Friday in what was called “unusual behavior.” Police located the missing woman dead inside her Gladstone home.
143. Matthew White, 30, on Sept. 18
Officers responded around 9 a.m. to the 3900 block of South Benton Avenue, where they found multiple people who were in distress and appeared to be “erratic.”
Police asked the people to exit the home so that they could search it. An unresponsive man was found under the entryway stairwell with apparent gunshot wounds. Officers could not find a pulse or other signs of life. Emergency medical crews declared the man dead at the scene.
142. Javon Norfleet, 23, on Sept. 11
Officers were dispatched around 9 p.m. to the 3400 block of Wyoming Street on a reported shooting. The gunshot victim was located inside an apartment. He was pronounced dead by paramedics on scene.
141. Devin Sparkman, 24, on Sept. 8
Officers were dispatched around 7:10 p.m. on Sept. 6 to the 11300 block of Bristol Terrace on a reported shooting. A gunshot victim, 24-year-old Devin Sparkman, was taken to the hospital. He died there two days later.
140. Lambert Smalls, 59, ruled a homicide on Sept. 6
Officers were dispatched shortly after 9 p.m. on Aug. 22 to the 1600 block of Jackson Avenue on a reported cutting. In the parking lot, they found 59-year-old Lambert Smalls suffering from “apparent bodily trauma.” He was taken to the hospital, where he later died. A suspect was arrested at the scene.
139. Antwan Hill, 33, on Sept. 3
Officers responded around 3:45 a.m. to the area of West 8th Street and Pennsylvania Avenue, where they found an unresponsive man with apparent gunshot wounds in a park area. Emergency medical crews took the man to a hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
138. Leroy M. Purkett, 28, on Sept. 2
A shooting was reported just after 10:30 a.m. in the 300 block of Drury Avenue. A man was found lying wounded in the street after what was believed to be a physical altercation that ended in a shooting, police said. He died later that day at the hospital.
136. Dillion Zino, 23, and 137. Steven L. Williams, 28, on Sept. 2
Around 4:45 a.m., officers responded to a shooting on the 3100 block of Harrison Street where they found two men unresponsive in a parking lot. Both men were declared dead at the scene.
135. Neal Harris, 55, on Aug. 31
Officers were dispatched to the 1800 block of East 67th Street on a reported disturbance with multiple people fighting in the street. As officers were responding, they received updated information that a shooting had taken place. An apparent gunshot victim was found unresponsive in the street. He was treated on scene by responding officers and taken away by ambulance to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
134. Joseph Burns, 51, on Aug. 30
Officers were dispatched to the 2900 block of Prospect Avenue on a medical call. A man was found dead of gunshot wounds in the front yard area of an apartment building. He appeared to have been shot multiple times.
133. Rodney Gray, 38, on Aug. 21
Officers responded just after 8:30 a.m. to an apartment in the 2000 block of Wheeling Avenue on the reported “cutting.” Inside an apartment, they found a man with significant injuries. Emergency medical crews declared the man dead at the scene.
132. Stephen C. Carter, 31, on Aug. 21
Officers responded just before 1:30 a.m. to Handy Coin Laundry LLC, 7000 Eastwood Trafficway, where they found a man in the parking lot suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. Emergency medical crews declared the man dead at the scene.
131. Daniel T. Lainson, 56, on Aug. 18
Officers responded to a call reporting a prowler shortly after midnight at a home in the 400 block of Northwest 88th Street in the Sherrydale neighborhood of Kansas City, North. During the investigation, officers were directed to a nearby home where they found a man fatally wounded. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
130. Tywonn Greene, 15, on Aug. 17
Officers responded just after 12:30 a.m. to the 11600 block of Richmond Avenue, where they found the teenager in a parking lot with apparent gunshot wounds. Emergency medical crews declared the boy dead at the scene.
129. David E. Clark, 44, on Aug. 13
A man was fatally shot at about 6 p.m. in the 3600 block of Norton Avenue. A person of interest was taken into custody at the scene. Police believe the two men knew each other, but it wasn’t immediately clear what led up to the shooting.
128. Michael A. Cox, 44, on Aug. 12
Just before noon, officers were called on reports of gunfire to East 47th Street and Liberty Street. About two blocks away from Westwood Park, they discovered a man suffering from gunshot wounds inside a vehicle. His car had collided with a few other vehicles parked along the street, Gonzalez said. He was declared dead after being transported to an area hospital.
127. Zafir A. Perkins, 17, on Aug. 9
Officers responded just before 11:30 p.m. to the 2500 block of East 9th Street, where they found an unresponsive teen boy who appeared to be shot in the parking lot of a business. Police and emergency medical crews rendered medical aid, but the boy was declared dead at the scene shortly after.
126. Krystopher Z. McIntosh, 22, on Aug. 7
Officers responded around 11:40 p.m. to the area of 59th Street and Virginia Avenue, where they found a man shot and unresponsive in the front yard of a home. Emergency medical crews took the man to a hospital, where he was declared dead.
125. Diego Almeda, 15, on Aug. 6
Police responded to the shooting shortly after 11 p.m. on northbound Bruce R. Watkins Drive/U.S. 71 highway just south of 22nd Street. There they found two teens inside a vehicle stopped on the side of the highway who had been struck by gunfire coming from another vehicle. The victims were taken to a hospital, where one of the teens, a juvenile male, died from his injuries. The other, an adult male, was in critical condition.
124. Joshua Mahl, 37, on Aug. 6
At about 5:45 p.m., police were called to the scene of a “cutting” on the bridge near the 2000 block of Main Street where they found a man unresponsive. A witness told police two males got into a fight when one hit the other with an unknown object, wounding him.
123. Phillip Roberts, 40, on Aug. 3
Officers responded around 2:15 a.m. to the 1800 block of Askew Avenue, where they found a man shot and unresponsive in an open lot area outside of a vehicle. Emergency medical crews declared the man dead at the scene.
122. Jesse Thomas, 39, on Aug. 1
Police responded shortly after 3 a.m. to investigate a call reporting that shots had been fired into a home in the 6000 block of Indiana Avenue, which is just east of the Bruce R. Watkins Drive in the South Town Fork Creek neighborhood. Once there, officers were directed inside where they found an unresponsive man. He was declared dead at the scene.
121. Raymond R. Smith, 62, on July 31
Someone called police about 11:15 a.m. saying they looked out a window after hearing gunfire and saw a man lying on the ground in front of a home in the 3800 block of Bales Avenue in the Palestine West and Oak Park Northeast neighborhood. The victim was taken to a hospital where he was declared dead.
120. Manuel E. Valentine-Ruperto, 58, on July 28
Officers responded to the 3400 block of Roberts Street on a reported shooting. An unresponsive man was found suffering from gunshot wounds on the north sidewalk. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
119. Demetrius Lanear, 36, on July 24
Officers responded just after 1 a.m. to the area of East 80th Street and Forest Avenue, where they found a man in the grassy area next to a roadway suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. The man died at the hospital.
118. Dyelan Mink, 29, on July 24
Officers responded just after 1:30 a.m. to a call of a suspicious person in the 7900 block of North Park Avenue, which was upgraded to a shooting while they were en route. Police found a man inside a home suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene Investigators believe an argument led to the shooting. A person of interest was taken into custody at the scene.
116. Adan Morales-Alvarado, 16, and 117. Angel Macias, 15, on July 23
A shooting was reported at about 6:30 p.m. in 3700 block of East 8th Street. A 16-year-old victim, later identified as Adan Morales-Alvarado, was found on the sidewalk was declared dead at the scene. On Aug. 4, a second victim also found on the sidewalk, 15-year-old Angel Macias, died in the hospital.
115. Anthony Bostic, 44, on July 17
Officers responded just before 10:30 p.m. to the 10300 block of East 42nd Street, where they found an unresponsive man who had been shot. Emergency medical crews took the man to a hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
114. Jami Duncan, 39, on July 17
Officers responded just before 11 p.m. to the 3400 block of East 54th Street, where they found a woman shot and unresponsive inside a home. Emergency medical crews pronounced the woman dead at the scene.
113. Rajesh Patel, 69, on July 17
Officers responded around 2 a.m. on May 1 to 6300 Blue Parkway, where they found 69-year-old Rajesh Patel injured in the parking lot. Patel was transported to a hospital but fell into a coma as a result of his injuries. On July 17, police learned that Patel died from his injuries. Officials are investigating the death as a homicide.

The Kansas City Police Department responded to a call after 9 a.m. Friday near the 1300 block of E. 81st Terrace, where they found an unknown man who died from a suspected gunshot wound in a backyard of a home. The shooting happened near Marlborough Green Space.
111. Juan Zollar, 47, on July 13
Patrol officers were flagged down by a woman near Linwood Boulevard and Troost Avenue who said a passenger in her vehicle had been shot. Responding officers located a man in the vehicle who was unresponsive. He was taken to the hospital and pronounced dead there.
110. Phillip Holoman, 62, on July 12
Officers were dispatched around 12:30 p.m. to East 45th Street and Benton Boulevard on a reported shooting. A gunshot victim was found unresponsive in the street. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
109. Samaya Lurks, 18, on July 10
Officers responded just before 11 p.m. to a residence in the 2600 block of Lawn Avenue, where they found an unresponsive woman in a home who appeared to be shot. Emergency medical crews declared the woman dead at the scene.
108. Marcos A. Munoz-Benitez, 49, on July 10
A shooting was reported in the parking lot of an auto shop at about 11:30am in the 7300 block of East US Highway 40, police said. Marcos A. Munoz-Benitez, 49, was found suffering from gunshot wounds. He was declared dead at the scene.
107. Unknown victim on July 6
Kansas City police were called to a reported shooting around 11 a.m. A man and woman were found dead of gunshot wounds in a truck parked in a driveway. It was determined to be a murder-suicide.
106. Ronald Kendall, 41, on July 4
Officers responded just after 10:30 p.m. to a Conoco gas station at 8505 Woodland Ave., where they found an unresponsive man with apparent gunshot wounds inside. Emergency medical crews declared the man dead at the scene.
105. Jon Rone, Jr., 42, on July 4
After receiving a call of a stabbing just before 2:30, police found a man inside a gas station on U.S. Highway 40 near Independence “suffering from apparent bodily trauma,” according to a news release from Captain Corey Carlisle, a spokesman for the Kansas City Police Department.
104. Donnell Epperson, 24, on July 3
Officers were dispatched around 7 p.m. to 59th Street and Wabash Avenue on a reported shooting. Responding officers found 24-year-old Donnell Epperson on the sidewalk near a residence. He was taken by ambulance to the hospital and died there several days later.
103. Theophlius Johnson III, 26, on July 2
Officers responded to the shooting shortly before 5 p.m. in the 2000 block of Oakley Avenue where they found a man lying in the front yard of a home suffering from gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead.
102. Tyler D. Ashley, 26, on July 1
Officers responded to investigate a reported shooting in the 5300 block of Westridge Road in the Fairway Hills neighborhood on Kansas City’s East Side. There, they found Ashley and he was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead. His death was ruled a homicide two months later.
101. Timmy Mitchell, 38, on June 30
Officers responded to a shooting shortly before 1 p.m. at East 43rd Street and College Avenue, police said. Arriving officers found the victim who was suffering from gunshot wounds and began rending aid to the victim. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
100. Ivan Tyson, 36, on June 25
A man was shot at about 3 a.m. near East 31st Street and Prospect Avenue, police said. He died at the hospital later that day.
99. Ricky Monroe, 17, on June 25
Gunshots rang out just after 2 a.m. in the 3600 block of Michigan Avenue. Police found Monroe in a vehicle in front of a home suffering from gunshot wounds. He was taken to the hospital where he died later in the morning, police said.
96. Nikko Manning, 22; 97. Camden Brown, 27 and 98. Jasity “Jas” Strong, 28, on June 25
Officers responded just after 4:30 a.m. to 57th Street and Prospect Avenue, where they found two men and one woman shot and unresponsive in a parking lot and the street just south of the intersection. All three were pronounced dead at the scene. Five additional shooting victims were taken to different hospitals by ambulance or private vehicle and are believed to have injuries that are not life-threatening.
95. Cyree Crook, 25, on June 23
Officers were dispatched around 9:15 p.m. to a reported shooting in the 500 block of East 10 Street. Responding officers found a gunshot victim unresponsive in the parking lot of the Express Stop gas station and convenience store. He was declared dead at the scene. A person of interest was arrested a few blocks away that night.

Around 1:30 a.m., officers were dispatched on June 15 to the 1300 block of East 89th Street for a reported shooting. A gunshot victim was located in a vehicle at that location. He was taken to the hospital and died there days later. Detectives later learned the shooting took place at a convenience store in the 700 block of East 85th Street.

Officers were dispatched around 11 p.m. to a reported crash at Linwood Boulevard and Cleveland Avenue. Police were later advised a person had been shot. A man was found fatally wounded in a car that had struck a building. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police were called to the 1300 block of Askew Avenue on a reported shooting and found a man suffering from gunshot wounds. Police on June 19 reported the man had died.

Officers responded around 12:30 p.m. to a reported shooting at 34th and Main streets. Arriving officers found a gunshot victim who was taken by ambulance to the hospital. He died there hours later. One person of interest was taken into police custody.

Around 9 p.m., a Kansas City police officer radioed for assistance at 31st Street and Van Brunt Boulevard. Responding officers were alerted that shots had been fired. When the assisting officers arrived, three occupants of a white van were shot and one unharmed officer was on scene. One gunshot victim, a male, was pronounced dead at the scene, and a second, a female, was declared dead after arriving at the hospital. A third gunshot victim suffered an injury that was described as minor.

Police initially received a 911 call shortly before 5:40 a.m. about an injury crash at Interstate 670 and Broadway in the south part of the downtown loop in Kansas City, police said. As officers were on their way to the wreck, a second 911 call came in moments later saying there had been a shooting at the same location. Once there, officers found a woman inside a car suffering from gunshot wounds. She died at the hospital a short time later.

Police responded to a shooting at 16th Street and Grand Boulevard in the Crossroads District around 1:30 a.m. to find a victim wounded. He was transported to a hospital, where he was declared dead. Grand Boulevard was closed for a portion of that evening as detectives canvassed the area.

Officers responded around 5 p.m. to the Family Dollar at Troost Avenue and Linwood Boulevard on a reported shooting. Inside the business they located a man suffering from a gunshot wound. He was taken to the hospital and pronounced dead there. Two other people showed up at the hospital and were treated for gunshot wounds stemming from the same shooting.

Around 3:30 a.m., officers were in the area of 3800 Northwest 63rd Terrace when they heard gunfire. A 911 call also reported the sound of shots in the area. Officers found a vehicle off the road that crashed into a streetlight with an unresponsive man inside who appeared to be shot. He was declared dead at the scene.

Officers were dispatched around 7:30 p.m. to a residence near 35th Street and Wabash Avenue on a reported shooting. A gunshot victim was located inside and pronounced dead there. One person of interest was taken into police custody.

Officers were dispatched around 7 p.m. to the 3300 block of Colorado Avenue on a reported shooting. Inside a vehicle in an apartment complex parking lot they located a gunshot victim. He was taken by ambulance to the hospital and pronounced dead there.

Officers were dispatched to 36th Street and Agnes Avenue and met area residents who said a gunshot victim had been found there unresponsive and taken away by private vehicle. Occupants of the car contacted officers at 31st and Prospect Avenue and the gunshot victim was taken from the vehicle and transported by ambulance to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Around 12:30 a.m., officers were dispatched to the 5200 block of Walrond Avenue on a 911 call for a person in need of medical attention. As they were responding, the officers were advised that there was a dead person inside a residence there. Officers located a man who had suffered traumatic injuries. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Officers were dispatched around 10:30 p.m. to East 51st Street and Park Avenue on a report of gunfire. Police were later advised of a shooting victim five blocks south at East 56th Street. The shooting victim, a man, was declared dead at the scene.

Officers responded around 8 a.m. to the former Applebee’s at 4181 Sterling Ave. after a witness called police while driving past the scene. When they arrived, police found an unresponsive man laying in the parking lot behind the building. He was suffering from unknown bodily trauma and declared dead at the scene.

Kansas City police were called to the 1200 block of East 83rd Street, where they discovered a man suffering from gun shot related injuries. He was transported to an area hospital and succumbed to his injuries hours later.

Officers responded about 12:30 p.m. to investigate the report of shots being fired near 82nd Terrace and Forest Avenue. Arriving officers found emergency medical workers treating the teen in the parking lot of the Villages Apartments. The teen died at a hospital.

Officers were dispatched around 2:30 p.m. to reports of gunfire near 39th Street and Benton Boulevard. Two gunshot victims, both men, were found in the area on 39th Street near Benton and at Chestnut Avenue. Both were taken to the hospital. Kansas City police received a 911 call about 11:20 p.m. reporting a person armed with a gun had fired one or more shots in the 1800 block of West Pennway Street, according the highway patrol, which is investigating the killing. When officers arrived, the man allegedly fired one or more shots inside a home. He then allegedly fired in the proximity of officers and one or more officers returned fired, killing Payne, the highway patrol said.

Carter was shot at about 6:15 p.m. on May 6 near East 12th Street and Van Brunt Boulevard, Kansas City police said. The teenager died on May 14 at the hospital.

On April 27, officers were dispatched to Research Medical Center after being alerted by staff of a gunshot victim being admitted with critical injuries. Officers determined the shooting took place at 33rd Street and U.S. 71 Highway. Six days later, the gunshot victim, 19-year-old Terrell Farrow, died in the hospital.

Three men were shot and killed in two shootings occurred within the span of 30 minutes four blocks away from one another. Around 1 a.m. near Gregory Boulevard and The Paseo, officers found Lovingood and Ellison shot. Both were pronounced dead there. Police said the shootings were related.

Officers responded around 10 p.m. to the 800 block of Prospect Avenue on a reported shooting. Police found a gunshot victim on the block. Paramedics pronounced him dead at the scene.

Officers responded just before 1:45 a.m. to assist an ambulance crew with a 911 call. They found Treadway suffering from an unspecified injury just south of East 41st Street and Spruce Avenue. Treadway was pronounced dead at the scene.

Officers were called to the 4900 block of East 27th Street on a report of a man pointing a gun at people indiscriminately. Two responding officers encountered Byers in the middle of 27th Street, police said, and ordered him to drop the weapon. One of the officers shot him after Byers failed to obey that command, police said. The deadly use of force was being reviewed by the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

Officers responded at 8 p.m. to the 1800 block of Cambridge Avenue, where they found a crime scene associated with a shooting. The victim was driven by private vehicle to a hospital, where they were pronounced dead, police said. People at the scene told officers that the shooting happened inside a home.

Officers responded to a shooting call about 4 p.m. in the 500 block of The Paseo where they found the shooting victim. The victim was taken to a hospital, where he died days later of his injury. Police said there was an argument at a home in the neighborhood which led to the shooting.

Officers were dispatched shortly before midnight on March 11 to the 1500 block of West 12th Street on a reported shooting. The gunshot victim, Makel Williams, was taken away by ambulance with critical injuries. He later died in the hospital.

Blewett died on March 15, days after being shot March 2 during a robbery on the 5800 block of East 100th Street. Prosecutors say Maya Ward and Daniel Brown were let into the home before shooting Blewett and taking his money.

Officers were dispatched to Independence and Garfield avenues on a call for medical service. About two blocks to the east, an officer located a victim suffering from traumatic injury in the middle of Independence Avenue. The victim was taken by ambulance to the hospital and pronounced dead there.

Officers were dispatched to the 2000 block of East Linwood Boulevard on a reported cutting. Inside an apartment a man was found suffering from traumatic injuries. He was pronounced dead at that scene. Police took one person of interest into custody.

Officers were dispatched around 9:15 p.m. to the 4300 block of East Seventh Street on a reported disturbance. A woman was found with injuries in the front yard of a residence. She was taken to the hospital and pronounced dead there. Police were awaiting an autopsy by the medical examiner to determine what caused the woman’s fatal injuries.

Officers were dispatched around 4:50 p.m. to the 10400 block of Blue Ridge Boulevard on a report of the sound of gunfire. Responding officers were advised that a shooting had taken place in the parking lot of a Family Dollar. A gunshot victim was located and taken by ambulance to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The victim was taken to the hospital where he died a short time later. Police at the scene said they believe the victim had an interaction with a suspect near a common area of the apartment building that ended in gunfire.

Police responded to US 71 Highway and Red Bridge Road on a report of a shooting. Bewley-Perez was found in one of two cars involved in a crash. He was taken to the hospital in critical condition and died on Feb. 23.

Police officers were dispatched to a vacant car wash in the 8300 block of Hickman Mills Drive on a medical call the exact nature of which was not immediately known. Responding officers found an unresponsive woman at the scene. Detectives and crime scene personnel searched for witnesses and evidence. On Feb. 21, the Jackson County Medical Examiner’s Office found the cause of death to be homicide.

Officers responded to reports of a shooting just before 2:45 a.m. in the 500 block of Westport Road in the Westport entertainment district. There they found a woman suffering from gunshot wounds in a parking lot. The victim was declared dead at the scene.

Officers responded to a shooting at 1 p.m. and found the victim unresponsive in the street in front of a home in the 2100 block of E. 24th Terrace. Emergency medical crews declared the victim dead at the scene.

Officers responded to a shooting about 12:30 a.m. inside a home in the the 3400 block of Chestnut Avenue, police said. The preliminary investigation revealed that a man was killed and a woman was injured when shots were fired during an argument inside the home.
7. Bryson Washington, 29, on Jan. 23
A shooting was first reported at about 11:40 a.m on Jan. 20 at Elite Funeral Chapel, at 11525 Blue Ridge Blvd. Three people were shot and hospitalized in a shooting that police believe was a result of an argument that began inside the funeral home chapel. One of the victims, Washington, died at the hospital days later.

Officers were dispatched to a residence in the 7600 block of East 108th Terrace on a reported shooting. Inside a residence there, the officers found a gunshot victim, who was then taken by ambulance to the hospital. Detectives were told that afternoon that he died of his injuries. A person of interest was arrested at a nearby location, police said.

Officers were dispatched around 6:10 p.m. to reports of the sound of gunfire in the 10000 block of East 42nd Street at the Stonegate Meadows apartment complex. Responding police were told while en route that there had been a shooting. A gunshot victim was found inside a vehicle in one of the complex’s parking lots. He was taken by ambulance to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Officers responded just before 2:15 a.m. to the 700 block of Lewis Avenue, where they found a victim suffering from gunshot wounds outside a home. Around the same time, officers were also called to a shooting scene at the Express Stop at 8501 Winner Road, about a half a mile away. At the gas station, they located two people suffering from gunshot wounds. Police believe the shootings are connected.
Emergency medical crews declared the person at Lewis Avenue dead at the scene. They transported the two people found at the Express Stop to a hospital in critical condition.

Officers responded just before 1 a.m. Jan. 8 to a home in the 2000 block of East 73rd Street, where they found a man and a woman unresponsive in the front yard. Officers responded just before 1 a.m. to a home in the 2000 block of East 73rd Street, where they found a man and a woman unresponsive in the front yard. Emergency medical crews declared the man dead at the scene, and took the woman to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Officers responded shortly after midnight to the shooting in the 6500 block of Kaw Drive. Police found a man with an apparent gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
22. Leopoldo Garcia Pando, 47, on Dec. 8
Officers responded about 3:30 a.m. Friday on a report of shots being fired in the 900 block of Greeley Avenue, which is north of Parallel Parkway near the Woodlawn Cemetery. Officers found the victim who was being taken to a hospital, where he later died of his injuries.
21. Darrius Fant, 32, on Nov. 18
Shortly after midnight, officers responded to a shots fired call where they found a man who had been wounded by gunfire in a parking lot in the 2000 block of North 18th Street. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
20. Treshon Gray, 28, on Nov. 11
At 9:20 p.m., officers responded to a shooting outside a home in the 2500 block of North 57th Street where they found a man suffering from gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
19. Diamond Steen, 23, on Sept. 19
Officers responded to a disturbance around 6:20 p.m. at O’Reilly’s Auto Parts at 4700 Parallel Pkwy, where they found a man unresponsive outside the store.
Dispatchers said two men were stealing from the store, when a physical fight broke out between employees and the shoplifters. One man, identified as one of the alleged shoplifters, was pronounced dead at the scene. Another man who also allegedly tried to steal from the store had minor injuries and was taken to a hospital in stable condition.

A shooting was reported at about 7:30 p.m. outside a business in the 5500 block of Leavenworth Road — near Church’s Chicken, Tom’s Burgers, Security Bank and Happy Foods North. The victim was shot several times before the suspects got into a vehicle and fled the scene, police said.
17. Kevin D. Lewis Jr., 24, on Aug. 23
Officers were dispatched around 6:30 p.m. to a reported shooting the 1900 block of North Eighth Street. There the officers located a gunshot victim inside a residence. He was taken to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
16. Walter Sawyer III, 51, on Aug. 17
Officers were dispatched around 3 a.m. to the 7300 block of Troup Avenue on a report of a dead person. A homicide victim was discovered inside an apartment there.
15. Phillip C. Bagby Jr., 18, on Aug. 5
Officers responded around 5:11 p.m. to the 1500 block of North 5th Street, where they found a man and child who had been shot. Both victims were transported to a hospital for treatment. The man died from his injuries, and the child is in stable condition.
14. Latasha Williams, 43, on July 21
Officers were dispatched at 1:48 p.m. to a reported stabbing in the 700 block of Nebraska Avenue. A woman was found dead of stab wounds, and a man was taken into police custody.
13. Samuel McGriff, 72, on July 18
Officers responded around 11:45 a.m. to a reported stabbing near 34th Street and Metropolitan Avenue. A critically injured woman gave police a description of her attacker. Officers encountered and shot a suspect who allegedly charged them with a knife. While on scene, police were notified a relative of the suspect had been fatally stabbed in a senior care facility near 37th Street and Strong Avenue.

Officers were dispatched around 2:40 p.m. to a reported shooting in the 3100 block of West Barker Circle. The teenager was dead when officers arrived.
11. Thomas Wheeler, 34, on June 5
Police officers responded to the 500 block of Elizabeth Avenue on a report of shots fired. In the alley, officers found a man suffering from gunshot wounds. He was taken by ambulance to the hospital, where he died.
9. Kristy C. Thow, 29, and 10. Penny Smith, 50, on May 18
Police responded to a shooting shortly before 11 p.m. at a home in the 2700 block of North 123rd Street. Arriving officers found three women outside with critical injuries. They were taken to a hospital where Thow was pronounced dead. Smith died two days later. Smith’s husband, 51-year-old Christopher Smith, died from a suicide.

Officers were dispatched around 2 p.m. to the 2200 block of North 56th Terrace on a reported shooting. A gunshot victim was found inside a residence there. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
7. Sir’Antonio Brown, 6, on May 3
Officers were dispatched around 6 p.m. to the 3100 block of Greeley Avenue on a report of a shooting. A child was found there suffering from gunshot wounds. He was taken to the hospital and pronounced dead there.
6. Amaree’ya Henderson, 25, on April 26
Police fatally shot a man during a “confrontation” that arose around 8:30 p.m. during a traffic stop in the 1100 block of Metropolitan Avenue. The man was pronounced dead at the hospital, according to police.
5. Jadah M. Clark, 20, on April 13
Officers responded to 13th Street and Washington Avenue and located Clark suffering from a gunshot wound in a residence there. Detectives determined she was struck by a stray bullet following an exchange of gunfire near her home.
4. Ricardo Apodaca, 18, on Feb. 15
Officers responded just after 8:20 p.m. to the 2300 block of North 11th Street, where they found Apodaca dead at the scene with an apparent gunshot wound.
3. John Anderton, 50, on Feb. 4
A man was fatally shot by Kansas City, Kansas police in the 5200 block of Georgia Avenue. No officers were injured, according to police. The shooting unfolded after officers called around 5:45 p.m. to a home in the 5400 block of Haskell Avenue on a reported drug overdose. A man and woman there were found unresponsive and taken away by ambulance.
Officers at the scene saw another man fleeing the house on a bicycle when they arrived. A few blocks away, near 52nd Street and Georgia Avenue, an officer spotted a man who matched the description, said Officer Donna Drake with the Kansas City Police Department, which is handling the investigation. That officer attempted to stop him, an “exchange of some sort” followed, and the officer fired at the man, Drake said.

Police officers were dispatched around 1:50 p.m. to the 6100 block of Haskell Avenue. Responding officers found the body of a female inside a vehicle there.
1. Deven Monaghan, 32, on Jan. 22
Officers were dispatched to the 10900 block of Hubbard Road on a report of a shooting after a homeowner said another resident fired at a burglar. A man suspected in the home invasion was taken away by ambulance with critical injuries, police said. He died two days later in the hospital.
Independence
Around 4:25 p.m., someone transported the male victim to an Independence Fire Station 3 for medical treatment after the stabbing. The male victim, whose age wasn’t specified, died of his injuries as fire department personnel rendered aid.Investigators learned that the stabbing happened in the area of Truman Road and Hardy Avenue.
Officers responded around 2 a.m. to a business in the 9800 block of eastbound U.S. 40 Highway, where they found a man in the parking lot who was shot to death.
Officers responded around 3:30 p.m. to a home in the 1100 block of South Cottage Avenue where they found the teen outside with a gunshot wound, according to Independence police. The boy was provided medical aid at the scene and taken to a hospital, where he died from his injuries.
2. Trinity Vogel, 18, on Jan. 7
Officers were called at 11:00 a.m. to the Stoney Creek Hotel’s parking lot near 18011 East Bass Pro Drive, according to the Independence Police Department’s social media. When they arrived, detectives found a woman suffering from a gun shot wound. She was transported to an area hospital for treatment and died shortly after.
1. Christopher Wright, 24, on Jan. 1
Police responded to a shooting about 1 p.m. in the parking lot of the Short Stop Gas Station in the 9000 block of E. U.S. 40 highway. Arriving officers found a man inside the business with a gunshot wound. He died a short time later at the scene.
Olathe
7. Unknown man on Nov. 11
Officers responded around 9:10 p.m. to the 500 block of North Marion Street, where they found the two men, 26 and 28, with apparent stab wounds.
Police conducted life-saving measures on the 26-year-old, but he died of his injuries at the scene. The 28-year-old man had a stab wound that wasn’t life threatening and was taken to a hospital for further treatment.
6. Andrew G. Lyman, 36, on June 22
Police checking the welfare of a person found the victim’s body about 4:20 p.m. June 22 inside a home in the 13100 block of South Brougham Drive. Officers also found the body of a 70-year-old woman, who has not been identified. She died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The two were family members who lived in the home.

Police were called at 6:45 p.m. to a homicide in the 12100 block of South Strang Line Road.
4. Bryson Smith, 26, on April 23
Police responded shortly before 6 p.m. to a home in the 800 block of South Windsor Road to investigate an armed disturbance involving family members. Officers found Smith with a gunshot wound to the back left side of his head. He was pronounced dead two days later.
2. Jessica Hicks, 19, and 3. Monterrio Spencer Jr. on April 15
Police responded to the area of North Rogers Road and West 126th Street on a reported homicide. There they found a Hicks and Spencer who had been shot. Hicks was pronounced died at the scene. Spencer was taken to a hospital where he later died. Investigators determined they shot each other.
1. Rhoda Morgan, 53, on Jan. 29
Officers were dispatched to the Econo Lodge at 20662 W. 151st Street to check the welfare of a guest who had not checked out by late morning. Inside the room, police officers discovered the body of 53-year-old Rhoda Morgan. The case was initiated as a death investigation and was later ruled a homicide by the Johnson County medical examiner.
Raytown
6. Amber Minor, 40, on Dec. 24
Officers were dispatched to the 9800 block of 77th Terrace on a report of a body lying in a driveway. When officers arrived, they found a Minor suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. Minor was pronounced dead at the scene.
4. Jaden Brown, 20, and 5. Brendon Fisher, 19, on Oct. 1
Two people were shot at about 2:13 p.m. in the area of 61st Street and Raytown Road, police said. No suspect was in custody immediately following the shooting.
3. Christian Rodriguez, 26, on July 31
Shortly after 8 p.m., police responded to investigate a report that a man had been shot multiple times and was lying on the ground near the 9900 block of 60th Street. Arriving officers found Rodriguez on the lawn outside one of the buildings at the Somerset Village apartments. He was taken to a hospital where he died a few days later.
2. Jeremiah Plowden, 31, on July 22
Officers responded around 9:50 p.m. to 67th Street and Blue Ridge Boulevard on reports of a two-vehicle collision. When they arrived, they found a man dead with an apparent gunshot wound.

Officers were dispatched to 86th Street and Stark Avenue on multiple reports of shots fired and a person shot. One man was found with gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Grandview
3. Ethan Chapman, 28, on Aug. 2
Around 8:31 a.m., Grandview police were dispatched to the 11900 block of Smalley Avenue in response to the fatal shooting as part of a shooting spree by another man. Chapman’s neighbor said he was “gunned down senselessly” as he was backing his car down the driveway.

Charging documents filed for Young focus heavily on an alleged confession that he crashed into Churchill “on purpose” when he hit her with his truck while she was stranded on the side of the road with a flat tire.

Benjamin T. Simmons, 36, is charged with first-degree murder in the killing of Tafoya, whose body was found May 23 in a wooded area near North 33rd Street and Drury Avenue. The Missouri State Highway Patrol investigated.

1. Michael O. Bohnsack, 59, on Jan. 12
Officers responded to 435 at the K-10 highway interchange in Lenexa around 5:45 a.m. to find a white Jeep Grand Cherokee had veered off the roadway and crashed into a light pole. Michael Bohnsack was found dead inside the vehicle with a gunshot wound in what police said was a possible road rage shooting.
Blue Springs
1. Shawn Wilkens, 37, on April 21
Firefighters arrived shortly after 12:30 a.m. to a recreational vehicle engulfed in flames in the 1200 block of Southwest Morningside Drive. One person was found dead inside the vehicle. After the victim was examined, Blue Springs police opened a homicide investigation, saying the fire was likely not the cause of death.
Overland Park
1. Damon Payton, 43, on May 6
Police responded to a gunfight at the Econo Lodge Inn & Suites the 7500 block of Shawnee Mission Drive at about 2 a.m. Arriving officers found Payton, of Chicago, who was suffering from a gunshot wound. He was taken to a hospital in critical condition where he later died.
Lee’s Summit
1. Dakota Wrightsman, 18, on May 13
At 1 a.m. Lee’s Summit police responded to calls of shots fired near a residence in the 2300 block of Southeast King Street, according to Sgt. Chris Depue, a spokesman for the department. Police located a teenager with gunshot wounds inside the home. He was dead when police arrived.
North Kansas City
1. Riley N. O’Laughlin, 27, on May 5
Officers responded just after 10 a.m. to the 1100 block of Fayette Street, where they found Riley N. O’Laughlin, 27, and John C. Hadley, 36, suffering from gunshot wounds inside the warehouse. They believed a situation surrounding a domestic relationship led to the shooting. On April 22, O’Laughlin reported to police that she had been kidnapped from 1122 Fayette St.
Platte County
1. Cody James Steffen, 32, on June 2
A Kansas City man was shot and killed at about 3:15 p.m. outside a store at the Vivion West Mall in Northmore. The Platte County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the homicide.
Cass County
1. Edward Demoussett, 65, on July 23
Deputies arrived around 7:38 p.m. to the area of Lakeview Drive in Freeman on reports of a shooting. Edward Demoussett was found laying in the roadway, while another person attempted life-saving measures, police said. Emergency medical crews declared Demoussett dead at the scene.
Mission
1. Jonah Oswald, 29, and 2. Shannon Wayne Marshall, 40, on Aug. 6
Fairview police officer Jonah Oswald was critically injured and later died after shots were fired at a Johnson County Quiktrip gas station as police chased Shannon Marshall in a vehicle theft.
Gladstone
1. D’Metrius J. Robinson, 34, on Aug. 25
Around 3:20 a.m., police were investigating a report of prowlers breaking into cars near the Englewood Vista apartment complex, in the 5700 block of North Main Street in Gladstone. Police have said three suspects were involved, including one who they said attempted to get in a car and flee the area. That suspect, Robinson, was shot while an officer tried to prevent him from leaving the area, according to police. Police have said the officer fired into the car while being dragged down the street.
Grain Valley
1. Unknown man on Dec. 25
Officers responded in the evening to the 700 block of Southwest Woodland Circle, where they found someone who had been shot following a dispute between a father and son. The victim was declared dead at the scene.
