Two dead in Tuesday afternoon shooting in Kansas City’s Northland: Police

Update: The deceased have been identified as Holly Weimer, 44, and Matthew Weimer, 45.

Two people are dead following a shooting in Kansas City’s Northland Tuesday afternoon, according to police.

Officers with the Kansas City Police Department responded to the 6800 block of N. Madison Avenue around 4 p.m. Tuesday, according to Sgt. Phil DiMartino, a KCPD spokesperson. Responding officers had intended to do a welfare check but were directed to a house when they arrived and were informed that a shooting had taken place.

Officers found a woman and a man suffering from gunshot wounds, DiMartino said. Both were pronounced dead at the scene.

As of Thursday, the shooting is being investigated as a murder-suicide, DiMartino said.

Tuesday’s shooting represents the 25th and 26th homicides in Kansas City this year, according to data collected by The Star. At this time last year, 20 homicides had been reported in the city, according to Star data.
