No one in custody after fatal shooting at Manchester Avenue apartment: Kansas City police
Update: Police identified the victim as 22-year-old Alex Benson.
Kansas City police are investigating the shooting death of a man in an apartment off Manchester Avenue Tuesday afternoon.
Officers were called to an apartment complex in the area of 6300 Manchester Ave. around 2:30 p.m. on a reported shooting, said Officer Alayna Gonzalez with the Kansas City Police Department.
Officers spoke to the reporting party at the scene who said someone was shot inside. Police found a man inside a residence there who was suffering from a gunshot wound and was unresponsive. Medical responders declared him dead at the scene.
Gonzalez said police did not have any information indicating what led up to the shooting and were working to gather evidence and collect witness statements. No one was in custody, she said.

The killing is the second of three homicides reported in the city Tuesday and is Kansas City’s ninth homicide of the year, according to data tracked by The Star. By this time in 2024, there were two killings recorded in the city. Last year, Kansas City ended the year with 147 homicides.
