Kansas City metro records 190 homicides in 2024. Here are the details of each killing.

Kansas City experienced its deadliest year on record in 2023, when there were 185 killings in the city. Across the metro area, more than 240 people died by homicide.

The previous year, Kansas City saw 171 killings. Including the greater metro, 264 homicides were recorded in 2022, the city’s third deadliest year ever recorded. And in 2020, the city’s second deadliest year on record, there were 182 killings in Kansas City and 269 homicides when including surrounding cities.

In 2024, this list includes details of every homicide across the Kansas City metro area once they’ve been reported by police. It also includes the names and ages of each victim and when and where they died.

The list will be updated throughout the year, with the most recent homicides at the top.

The Star counts fatal police shootings as homicides, which could mean a city’s total will differ from those kept by a city’s police department. Some homicides on the list may be judged by authorities as justifiable.

KANSAS CITY

148. Zamauria Jones, 18, on Dec. 28

Officers responded shortly after 10 p.m. to reports of shots being fired at the East Hills Village Apartments in the 7600 block of Monroe Avenue. While the officers were en route, a woman flagged them down, saying she was taking a shooting victim to the hospital and needed help. The victim was rushed to a hospital where she died.

147. Jaylen Andrews, 26, on Dec. 27

Officers responded around 5 p.m. on Dec. 10 to reports of a shooting in the 100 block of N Lawn Ave. They found a man with multiple gunshot wounds in the doorway of a nearby apartment. The man, identified as Andrews, was brought to a local hospital, where he died of his injuries on Dec. 27.

146. Tiffany Chrisman, 29, on Dec. 26

Officers responded just before 4 a.m. to an apartment in the 900 block of East 134th Street for a welfare check. They found evidence of a disturbance and a woman unresponsive with injuries. Paramedics pronounced the woman dead at the scene.

According to a preliminary investigation, the victim and a man were involved in an argument that turned physical.

145. Tacobe Kindred, 15, on Dec. 15

Officers responded shortly after 5:15 p.m. to investigate a reported shooting in the 3300 block of Bales Avenue in the Palestine West and Oak Park Northeast neighborhood. Residents in the area directed arriving officers to a home on the block, where they found a boy suffering from a gunshot wound. The boy died after emergency medical crews took him to a hospital.

144. Jabrielle Francis, 21, on Dec. 10

Officers responded just before 2:30 a.m. to East 51st Street and Indiana Avenue on a call for an ambulance in route. They found a man outside a vehicle near the intersection suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. Paramedics responded and pronounced the victim dead at the scene.

142. Deontae Marchbanks, 19, and 143. Cierra Pennington, 17, on Dec. 9

While officers were responding to reports of shots fired in the 6000 block of Blue Hills Rd. around 3:30, the incident was upgraded to a reported shooting. Upon responding, officers were directed to a parking lot, where a man and a woman in a car had both suffered gunshot wounds. The man was pronounced dead at the scene, while the woman died shortly afterward at a local hospital.

141. Unknown man on Dec. 5

Officers responded to the 8700 block of Blue Ridge Boulevard, near a Little Caesar’s pizza franchise, around 5:00 p.m. Several witnesses directed the officers to a car, whose occupant was unresponsive with multiple gunshot wounds. The man was pronounced dead at the scene.

140. Michelle Donato, 26, on Nov. 25

Officers responded just before 8:30 p.m. to the 1300 block of West Bluff Drive on a shooting call. When they arrived, officers were notified that two shooting victims had just left the scene in a vehicle. Officers then found two women who had been shot inside a vehicle on Avenida Cesar E. Chavez.

Paramedics responded and transported the women to a hospital, where Donato was pronounced dead. The other woman was recovering from her injuries.

139. Ethan Michael Gosch, 34, on Nov. 25

Agents with the Federal Bureau of Investigation responded to a home in the 3000 block of NW 73rd St. in the Northland to serve a federal search warrant. An FBI agent fatally shot Gosch, who the department alleges was armed, shortly after Gosch answered the door. He was pronounced deceased at the scene.

138. Robert Johnson, 41, on Nov. 24

Police were called just before 1:30 a.m. to Research Medical Center on Meyer Boulevard on a reported walk-in shooting. The injured man was brought by a private vehicle and died of his injuries. Preliminary investigation from detectives showed the shooting happened on 63rd Street and Manchester Trafficway.

137. Waleed Shaban, 34, on Nov. 14

Officers were called to the 300 block of East Linwood Boulevard in the Broadway Gillham neighborhood around 1 p.m. for a reported shooting and found a man in a parking lot suffering from gunshot trauma. The man was declared dead at the scene. Investigators determined two people had been in an argument that escalated to the fatal gunfire.

136. Andre Pride, 16, on Nov. 13

Officers responded to an apartment building in the 7500 block of E 85th Terrace around 6:30 p.m. They were directed to a grassy area in the apartment complex, where they discovered the teen unresponsive on the ground with gunshot wounds.

Paramedics transported the victim to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Police believe the shooting was the end result of an altercation among multiple people, with multiple shots being fired.

135. Steven S. Dowland, 41, on Nov. 10

Police were called to the area of Truman Road and Ewing Avenue where they found two victims shot in a vehicle. One victim, an adult man was pronounced dead at the scene. The second victim, a woman, was taken to a hospital with critical injuries.

134. Johnnie J. Sharp, 39, on Nov. 9

Police were called to the 5600 block of East 69th Street around 6:30 p.m. where they found a man with a gunshot wound. The victim was taken to the hospital with critical injuries, but died several hours later. Preliminary investigation indicates there was an altercation between two people who previously knew each other, but no one is yet in custody.

133. Marcus J. Oldham, 27, on Nov. 9

Officers were called to a residence in the 2700 block of Garfield where they found a man with a gunshot wound declared dead at the scene. A man at the scene was detained for further investigation. Preliminary investigation indicates the victim was in the residence when he had an interaction with a person that escalated and led to gunfire.

132. Dennis R. Griffin, 66, on Nov. 8

Police were called to a shooting at 75th Street and Paseo just before 6 p.m. where they found an unresponsive man in a vehicle stopped in the southbound lanes of Paseo, according to Jacob Becchina, spokesperson with the police department. The man had been shot.

He was taken to the hospital where he was declared dead.

131. Mateo Rideout, 7 weeks, on Oct. 26

Police were called around 6:30 p.m. on Oct. 26 to Children’s Mercy Hospital for an assault that occurred in the 8000 block of NW Milrey Drive. Hospital staff informed officers that baby boy Mateo Rideout was brought into the hospital with life threatening injuries. Rideout died 10 days later as a result of his injuries and a person of interest was taken into custody for further investigation. Rideout’s death was initially ruled suspicious until detectives received the official autopsy report from the medical examiner’s office on June 10, 2025.

130. Reginald Lamar, 48, on Oct. 25

Police responded around 8 p.m. to reports of a shooting inside a Little Caesars pizza restaurant at 8700 Blue Ridge Blvd. One man was found in the restaurant with gunshot wounds and was declared deceased at the scene. Police believe the shooter and victim knew each other and that the shooting had been the direct result of an escalating argument.

129. Ebony Davis, 44, on Oct. 24

Kansas City police officers responded to East 34th Street and Garfield Avenue around 8:15 p.m. after alleged gunfire set off ShotSpotter gunshot sensors in the area. Paramedics arrived before police and found a woman in a vehicle with gunshot wounds. Police believe shots were fired outside the vehicle and went through the car.

Medical responders brought the woman out of the vehicle and attempted to treat her nearby. The woman died shortly after being removed from the car.

128. Christopher Avila, 18, on Oct. 24

Officers were dispatched around 5:30 a.m. to the intersection of East 17th Street and Cambridge Avenue on a medical emergency call. They found a man lying unresponsive on the sidewalk with injuries and paramedics pronounced the man dead at the scene.

Officers could not immediately determine how the victim sustained his injuries, but asked for assistance from homicide detectives after determining the death was suspicious.

127. Eli Newton, 16, on Oct. 23

Kansas City police officers responded to reports of a shooting at Indiana Market & Deli, 2646 Indiana Ave., around 3:30 p.m. They discovered a man on the store floor with gunshot wounds, who was pronounced deceased on scene. A second man injured in the shooting presented at a local hospital shortly after.

126. Harold Brown, 43, on. Oct. 21

Officers responded to a report of gunfire in the area of Roberts Street and Bales Avenue just after 3 a.m. Police’s preliminary investigation discovered there was an interaction between several people outside of a vehicle which led to shots being fired.

When officers arrived at the scene, an adult male was suffering from a gunshot wound. Officers rendered aid to the victim who was transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. A second adult male traveled to a local hospital in a private vehicle and was pronounced dead at the hospital.

125. Johnathan Rodgers, 35, on Oct. 17

Kansas City police officers responded to the 3700 block of Independence Avenue around 7:30 p.m. on reports of an armed person. Responding officers found a man suffering from what appeared to be blunt-force trauma wounds. He was transported to a local hospital, where he was declared deceased.

Officers determined that the victim had been injured shortly before in an incident near 6th Street and Monroe Avenue, about one block away. A second team of officers and emergency medical personnel had also been sent to the area on separate reports of injuries.

124. DeAnthony Guthrie, 36, on Oct. 13

Officers responded to the shooting about 5:30 p.m at East 35th Street and Cleveland Avenue where they found a man in the parking lot of a convenience store who had been shot. The man was pronounced dead at the scene.

123. Unknown man on Oct. 5

Officers were dispatched just before 11 a.m. to the 8800 block of Northeast 105th Place when a caller reported a verbal argument that led to someone being stabbed multiple times. They found a man unresponsive and cold to the touch in a bedroom of a home, suffering from multiple puncture wounds. Paramedics pronounced the man dead at the scene.

Police believe the stabbing was a domestic violence incident between two people who knew each other.

122. Rommel U. Nolasco-Manuelez, 30, on Oct. 4

Officers responded around 8:30 p.m. to a shooting in the 2000 block of Drury Avenue in east Kansas City. They found a man in the street with fatal gushot wounds. Investigators believe the man was shot by another man after the two argued.

121. Adrian Terry, 22, on Oct. 4

Officers responded about 2 a.m. to a shooting in the 400 block of East Armour Boulevard, which is on the border of Central Hyde Park and North Hyde Park neighborhoods. There, officers found a man suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Emergency medical crews took the victim to a hospital, where he died hours later.

120. William Bradford, 68, on Oct. 3

Officers responded to the shooting just before 10:30 a.m. in the 5400 block of College Avenue in the North Town Fork Creek neighborhood, where they found the victim lying in the road unresponsive. He was pronounced dead.

119. Ollie Thompson, 73, on Sept. 21

Kansas City police were dispatched around 10:18 p.m. to the 10500 block of East 42nd Street, where they found a man with bodily trauma who was pronounced dead at the scene.

118. Freddie V. Jackson, 45, on Sept. 19

Officers responded just after midnight to the 2200 block of East 31st Street on a reported shooting. They found a man suffering from gunshot wounds in the parking lot of a Shell gas station. Paramedics responded and pronounced the man dead at the scene.

Investigators said an argument in the parking lot led to shots being fired and the victim being struck by bullets.

116. Jimmy Bowman, 22, and 117. Antonio Frazier Jr., 15, on Sept. 18

Officers responded around 7:15 p.m. to the 300 block of Maple Boulevard, near Maple Park. They found two men unresponsive with gunshot wounds. Both were pronounced dead at the scene by emergency medical personnel.

115. Michael D. Porter, 36, on Sept. 13

Officers responded around 9:45 p.m. to the 6300 block of Manchester Avenue on a reported shooting. Inside an apartment, they found a man unresponsive with gunshot wounds. Officers checked the victim for any signs of life and were unable to locate a pulse. Paramedics pronounced the victim dead at the scene.

Investigators believe the victim and another man were involved in an argument that led to the shooting.

114. Rodney Garner, 58, on Sept. 13

Officers responded shortly after 8:30 p.m. to a disturbance in the 4200 block of Agnes Avenue. While on their way, the officers were told that someone might have been shot. Arriving officers found a man who had been shot and was unresponsive on the porch of a home. The victim died on his way to the hospital.

113. Willie L. Judon III, 43, on Sept. 12

Officers responded around 11:45 p.m. to investigate a report of shots being fired in the 4000 block of Norton Avenue in the Northwest Vineyard neighborhood. Arriving officers found an unresponsive man who had been shot on the porch of a home in the neighborhood. The victim was pronounced dead. A woman also had been shot, but the injuries were not believed to be life-threatening.

112. Michael B. Waylee, 20, on Sept. 7

Officers responded at 4 a.m. to East 12th Street and Benton Boulevard on a reported crash. They found an unoccupied vehicle with what appeared to be bullet holes and evidence of someone being injured in the vehicle.

Officers canvassing the area were led to an apartment building southeast of the intersection where they found a man unresponsive who appeared to have been shot, said Capt. Jake Becchina, a spokesman with KCPD, in an email. Paramedics pronounced Waylee dead at the scene.

111. Robert “Robbie” Duren, 16, on Sept. 6

The Kansas City Fire Department responded just before 11:30 p.m. to a fire in the 5700 block of Bales Avenue in Kansas City’s North Town Fork Creek neighborhood. During a search of the residence, firefighters found the body of a man, who was pronounced dead at the scene.

After hearing from the medical examiner’s office, the death was ruled as a homicide.

110. Shroy Lapsely, 39, on Sept. 4

Officers on patrol around 11:30 p.m. Sept. 3 heard the sound of gunshots to their east, across Highway 71. They responded near East 55th Street and South Benton Avenue, where they found Lapsely and a woman with gunshot wounds. Lapsely was pronounced dead at a hospital around 1 a.m. Sept. 4. The woman received treatment for non life-threatening injuries.

109. Tondre Turner, 18, on Sept 3

Officers responded to the shooting shortly before 10:45 a.m. at a house in the 9600 block of Ditman Way in the Robandee South neighborhood. There, officers found both victims, who had been shot, in front of a home. Emergency medical crews took the victims to a hospital, where one of the men was pronounced dead. The other victim was being treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

108. Lipara Westmoreland, 17, on Sept. 2

Officers responded about 6:30 p.m. to a shooting in the 7500 block of East 87th Street, where they found the victim suffering from gunshot wounds in the parking lot of a nearby store. The victim was taken to a hospital where he died on Oct. 3. The preliminary investigation revealed the victim had exchanged gunfire with others and was struck.

107. Harold Alderson, 78, on Sept. 1

Police officers were dispatched around 9:30 a.m. to the 4100 block of North Brighton Avenue in response to a reported assault. Responding officers found 78-year-old Harold Alderson on the concrete with apparent head trauma. Paramedics took Alderson to the hospital, where he died hours later. A witness told police Alderson was involved in a verbal confrontation that turned physical, during which Alderson fell and hit his head.

106. Antonio Collins, 38, on Aug. 30

Police responded to the woods just off of U.S. Hwy 71 near E 22nd St around 7:50 p.m., where they found a man suffering from a gunshot wound. The man was declared deceased on scene.

105. Shaun Brady on Aug. 28

Police responded to E 63rd St. and Rockhill Ave. around 5:18 p.m. following reports of a shooting. They found a man unresponsive in the shared back parking lot of several businesses with multiple gunshot wounds. The man was subsequently pronounced dead at a local hospital. Police believe that he was taking out the trash when he became involved in a fatal altercation with several suspects clustered around a car.

104. Montague Ashline, 18, on Aug. 26

Police were called to the 5000 block of Swope Parkway for a reported disturbance Aug. 21 and found Ashline suffering from head trauma. He was taken to a hospital, and police later learned he had died from his injuries. Investigators determined there was an “interaction” in a group that led up to Ashline being struck with an object.

103. Unknown man on Aug. 26

Officers responded to investigate a report of shots being fired at about 9:45 p.m. at the Hillcrest Estates apartments in the 8400 block of Drury Circle in Kansas City’s Hillcrest neighborhood. There, officers found a man in front of the apartment building critically injured. The officers were directed inside an apartment where they found a second gunshot victim, who was pronounced dead at the scene.

102. Treshaun Wright, 21, on Aug. 25

Officers responded about 1:45 a.m. to investigate reports of gunfire in the 8200 block of Kenwood Avenue. Officers began searching the area and located a man inside a vehicle suffering from gunshot wounds in the 8200 block of Holmes Road. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

101. Chester Brown, 35, on Aug. 24

Officers responded just before 3:30 a.m. to a reported shooting at West 39th and Central streets. They found a man with a gunshot wound and paramedics pronounced him dead at the scene.

Officers found another man and a woman who also suffered gunshot wounds. They were transported to a hospital with non life-threatening injuries. Police said a group of people were gathered outside a business when shots were fired and the three victims were struck by bullets.

100. Michael Dehaan, 33, on Aug. 21

Officers were dispatched around 8:45 p.m. to the 3300 block of East Linwood Boulevard on a reported shooting, where they found a man suffering from a gunshot wound. Paramedics transported the man to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Police said an altercation happened between people before the shooting took place.

99. Ronald Barnett, 71, on Aug. 21

Officers were dispatched on a reported shooting just before 4:30 p.m. in the 8600 block of N. Boardwalk Avenue, in the parking lot of the Shops at the Boardwalk shopping mall. They found a man suffering from a gunshot wound.

The man was transported to a hospital by ambulance where he was pronounced dead. Police said the man was involved in a verbal altercation with a suspect just before he was shot. A suspect was taken into custody shortly after the shooting.

98. Brandon Branham, 31, on Aug. 21

Officers were dispatched just before 9 a.m. to Troost Avenue and East 19th Street after receiving a call about a possible dead body. They found a man with a gunshot wound and paramedics pronounced him dead at the scene.

97. David C. Crowell, 22, on Aug. 17

Police were called around 4:15 p.m. to the 300 block of Maple Boulevard in Pendleton Heights. about shots fired into a vehicle that left the area. A few minutes later, another call came in about a shooting at Smart and Bales avenues with two victims. One victim was found in the vehicle and declared dead. The other victim was found outside the vehicle and was taken to the hospital.

96. Adrian Terry, 22, on Aug. 14

Officers responded about 11:30 a.m. to a shooting at a Midtown apartment at 400 E. Armour Blvd. after firefighters on a medical call there heard gunfire. The victim was found outside the building and was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

95. Daniel Vernassie, 47 on Aug. 10

Officers were called to the area of 12th and Bellaire around 8 p.m. and found the vehicle with the man inside who was pronounced dead at the scene.

94. Wayne Steward, 23, on Aug. 8

Officers were dispatched to the 9500 block of Harrison Street near Indian Creek just before 10:15 a.m. on a report of the sound of gunfire. They found a man near the doorway of a residence unresponsive and suffering from apparent gunshot wounds, police said.

Officers rendered medical aid until paramedics arrived and transported the man to a hospital where he was pronounced deceased.

93. Terrance Sherrils, 28, on Aug. 5

Officers responded to reports of shots being fired in the area of East 38th Street and Pittman Road in Kansas City’s Ashland Ridge neighborhood. While en route, they were told that someone had been shot behind a business in the 9800 block of East U.S. 40 highway, which is on the border of Independence and Kansas City. There, police were directed to a campsite in a wooded area where they found an unresponsive man. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

92. Dyamund Shields Jr., 31, on Aug. 5

Shortly after 2 a.m. Monday, officers patrolling the area of East 70th Street and Prospect Avenue heard several shots being fired nearby. A man stopped the officers and told them he had been shot. An ambulance took him to a hospital. Another gunshot victim was found unresponsive nearby and was declared dead. Several other shooting victims showed up at hospitals.

91. Shamya Oliver, 20, on Aug. 4

Officers arrived around 4:15 a.m. at Gregory and Holmes on an emergency medical services call where they found a man and woman shot in a vehicle. She died of her injuries on Aug. 12. The male victim is in stable condition.

90. Louis H. Runnels, 21, on Aug. 4

Officers responded to reports of a shooting in the 2000 block of Manchester Avenue. Upon arrival, a security guard flagged down officers and directed to a vehicle where a man was suffering from a gunshot wound. The victim was taken to a hospital where he died four days later.

89. Anthony Handcock, 59, on Aug. 4

Officers responded just before 9:30 p.m. to investigate a report of a dead body found inside a home in the 3600 block of East 35th Street in the Palestine West and Oak Park Northeast neighborhood. There, they were directed to a nearby home where a man was found not breathing just inside the front door. The man was declared dead at the scene.

88. Anthony Canaday, 25, on July 30

Officers were in the area of East 55th Street and The Paseo in the Eastern and Blue Hills neighborhoods of Kansas City shortly when they heard the sound of several gunshots shortly before 9 a.m. The officers began to search where they believed the gunfire had come from and several people flagged down the officers and told them that a person had been shot.

87. Anthony Lewis, 52, on July 25

Officers responded to a call reporting there had been a shooting about 12:20 a.m at a house in the 2400 block of Brighton Avenue in the East Community Team South neighborhood. A preliminary investigation revealed that the victim and another person had “an interaction” inside the home that escalated to shots being fired. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

86. D L O’Hara, 54, on July 23

Police responded to the shooting just after 9:30 p.m. Tuesday at a home in the 500 block of Booth Avenue in the North Blue Ridge neighborhood. Police met the caller in front of the house, who told them a woman had been shot and the person involved might still be inside. Officers got the victim out of the house and she was taken to a hospital where she died shortly after.

85. Xavier Williams, 19, on July 21

Officers responded to reports of a shooting around E 13th St and The Paseo around 7:45 p.m. They discovered Williams facedown on the ground with gunshot wounds and notified emergency medical responders, who brought Williams to a local hospital in critical condition.

Officers were notified on July 26th that Williams had died of his wounds. Investigators believe that an unknown person shot Williams after an interaction between the two turned violent.

84. Anthony R. Brown, 64 on July 20

Officers responded to the 3400 block of North Cleveland Avenue July 19 on a call about a stolen car and found a 64-year-old man in a vehicle nearby at NE 34 St. and NE Chouteau Trafficway suffering from a gunshot wound. He died the next day from his injuries.

83. Melquan T. West-Yancy, 25, on July 20

Police were called just east of 9th and Chestnut Avenue on a shooting call around 7:30 p.m., where they found a man suffering a gunshot wound. Life-saving measures were done on scene, but he was pronounced dead at a local hospital.

82. Ernest J. Scott, 45, on July 19

Police were called to the 5400 block of Prospect Avenue around 4:30 a.m. and found a man suffering from apparent gunshot wounds there. The man was declared dead at the scene.

81. Shawn Mayberry, 49, on July 9

Officers responded to a shooting around 9:30 p.m. in the 2400 block of College Avenue in the Washington Wheatley neighborhood. There, officers were summoned to the front of a nearby home where a man was found just outside.

80. Cortez Caples, 32, on July 4

Just before 3 p.m., officers responded to a shooting call in the 2200 block of East 69th Street where they found an unresponsive man on the sidewalk in front of a home. The victim, who had been shot, was pronounced dead.

79. Tykeedra Henderson, 22, on July 4

Kansas City police responding to a shooting about 1 a.m. at a gas station parking lot at 31st and Bell streets found a woman shot to death in a vehicle.

78. Christopher Henderson, 27, on July 3

Officers responded around 6 a.m. to a shooting at The Ethans Apartments in the 1400 block of Northwest 80th Terrace where they found a man inside an apartment who had been shot. Emergency medical crews took the victim to the hospital where he died.

77. Ella Monroe, 79, on June 30

Officers responded about 9:45 p.m. to a shooting at East 51st Street and Park Avenue. There, they found a unresponsive woman in a vehicle at the intersection. She was taken to the hospital where she died on July 3.

76. Dominick Turner, 28, on June 30

Officers responded around 3:26 a.m. to the area of 12th Street and Grand Boulevard, where they found a man who had been shot. Emergency medical crews arrived and declared the man dead at the scene.

75. Chestina Gaskin, 23, on June 26

Officers responded just after noon to reports of a shooting at an apartment building in the 2000 block of Linwood Boulevard where they found a woman suffering a gunshot wound. The woman was pronounced dead on the scene. Officers canvassed for witnesses.

74. Wayne E. Gordon, 57, on June 24

Officers responded around 1 p.m. to Wabash Ave and East 84th St on a call for medical assistance. They found a man lying in an area of thick brush just off the street. Paramedics responded shortly after and declared the man dead at the scene.

Officers responded around 12:48 a.m. to 3200 E Linwood Blvd., just outside of Central High School. They found a woman in the yard of a nearby building with gunshot wounds. She died of her injuries June 20 at a nearby hospital.

70. Deshaun R. McKinzy, 29, on June 16

Officers responded at 3:30 a.m. to the area of 39th Street and Broadway Boulevard, where they found an unresponsive man who had been shot in the parking lot of a closed business. Emergency medical crews transported the man to a hospital with life-threatening injuries. Hours later, he was declared dead at the hospital.

Officers responded just before midnight Wednesday night to a shooting at a business near East 55th Street and Prospect Avenue. They found an unresponsive man with apparent gunshot wounds inside a vehicle in the business’ parking lot. Emergency medical crews arrived and declared the victim dead at the scene.

Officers responded around midnight to a shooting in the 2600 block of Swope Parkway. They found a man with gunshot wounds and he was taken to a hospital by ambulance in critical condition.

Two days later, the man died from his injuries.

A man was stabbed at a bus stop in the 7000 block of Prospect Avenue June 2. Police later learned that he had died from his injuries June 7.

A witness said the victim’s roommate stabbed him repeatedly and said there was no argument or words exchanged between the two before the attack occurred.

Officers responding to a shooting about 12:45 a.m. found a man who had been shot on the sidewalk near Truman Road and Grand Boulevard in Kansas City’s Crossroads Arts District. The victim was pronounced dead at a hospital. Police found two other shooting victims in a parking lot behind businesses in the area.

Officers responded to the shooting at 1:03 a.m. and were directed to a residence in the 3200 block of Bellefontaine Avenue. Police found two boys, a man and a woman who had all been shot. Emergency medical crews responded and declared one of the boys and the man dead at the scene.

Officers responded just before 2:30 p.m. to the area of 9th Street and Van Brunt, where they found an unresponsive man with gunshot wounds on the sidewalk. Police and emergency medical crews provided aid, but the man was declared dead at the scene.

Officers responded just after 4 a.m. to 50th Street and Prospect Avenue for a medical assistance call. They found a man lying unresponsive in the street with multiple gunshot wounds.

Police provided medical aid until paramedics arrived. The man was pronounced dead at the scene.

61. Ja’Carious I. McKissic, 23, on May 31

Officers responded around 11:30 p.m. to the 600 block of East 110th Terrace on a call for the sound of gunfire. They found a man lying unresponsive in the front yard of a home with multiple gunshot wounds.

Officers rendered medical aid to the man and called paramedics to the scene. The man was taken to a hospital by ambulance, where he was later pronounced dead.

60. Xavier Townsend-Keith, 23, on May 28

Officers responded to the intersection of E. 51st St and Prospect Ave. around 1 p.m. They discovered a man on the ground near a bus stop with gunshot wounds. Emergency medical services arrived around the same time and transported the man to a local hospital, where he died, police said.

59. Randy Zeller, 65, May 27

Officers responded around 7 a.m. to the 2500 block of College Avenue on a call for medical assistance. Officers found a man lying unresponsive in the street. The man had wounds, but they did not appear to be from gunshots, police said.

Paramedics pronounced the man dead at the scene.

58. Jahquan M. Robinson, 24, on May 26

Officers working in the area of the Westport Entertainment District heard multiple gunshots around 1:20 a.m. east of Westport Road and Broadway Boulevard. Police moved towards the sound and found multiple shooting victims, including an unresponsive man. Six people were taken to the hospital, either by ambulance or private vehicle, and the unresponsive man was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Kansas City police officers heard gunshots while driving on patrol near 31st and Van Brunt Boulevard around 6:30 p.m. Following the sound, the officers were directed to a car wash on Van Brunt Boulevard, near I-70. Outside, they found a man unresponsive in a car with a gunshot wound.

Emergency responders pronounced the man dead on the scene.

Around 1:50 p.m., officers responded to a call for a recovered stolen vehicle in the 3400 block of Wyoming Street. Later, that call was upgraded to a shooting. Officers found a man with multiple gunshot wounds near Woodbridge Apartments.

Officers rendered aid to the victim and called an ambulance. Paramedics declared the victim dead at the scene.

KCPD officers responded to Town Fork Creek Greenway off Bellefontaine Avenue at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, following reports of a shooting. They found a juvenile in the park with a gunshot wound and were told the shooting occured after an argument escalated on the basketball court. The victim was pronounced dead on the scene.

54. Noah Bryant, 22, on May 14

Officers responded to a disturbance around 10:20 p.m. to the 6500 block of Northwest Barry Road, where they found a man who had been shot. Police rendered aid and contacted emergency medical services, who took the victim to a hospital in critical condition. The victim died from his injuries the next day.

Officers responded around 10:41 p.m. to the 11800 block of Blue Ridge Boulevard, where they found a man with an apparent gunshot wound. Police performed life-saving measures, and emergency medical crews took the victim to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Kansas City police were called to an apartment complex in the 2600 block of East 29th Street shortly after 9 a.m. and found a man who was unresponsive and suffering from a gunshot wound. The man was declared dead at the scene. Police said the incident followed an argument.

50. Zachary H. Trivett, 27, on May 11

Officers were called to a shooting reported in the area of 12th Street and Benton Boulevard around 3 a.m., and when they arrived, a person at a business reported their friend had been shot. Trivett was unresponsive and suffering from an apparent gunshot wound and died at the scene.

Kansas City police officers were dispatched to the 11700 block of Corrington Avenue around 7:30 p.m., where onlookers directed them toward a home. Officers found a woman unresponsive outside the house with gunshot wounds. Once she was transported to an area hospital, neighbors and eyewitnesses told police another person had been shot inside the home. Officers found the man inside the home with gunshot wounds, and EMS pronounced him dead at the scene.

Officers responded just after 8 a.m. to the area of West 11th and Washington streets, where they found an unresponsive woman who had been shot lying in the street near a vehicle. Police rendered aid and called emergency medical services, who pronounced the woman dead at the scene.

47. Jeremy Hills, 38, on April 23

Officers responded to a shooting around 11:19 p.m. in the 11800 block of Northwest Plaza Circle, where they found two men who had been shot inside a hotel. Emergency medical crews declared one of the men dead at the scene. The other victim was taken to a hospital in critical condition.

46. Trevion Stewart, 13, on April 22

Police were called out after 4 p.m. to the 2700 block of Quincy Avenue after reports of a shooting. They located the victim in the street with a gunshot wound. First responders performed life saving measures and the victim was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.

45. Bryan Mahan, 65, on April 19

Officers responded to a disturbance at 8:15 p.m. in the 3200 block of Brighton Avenue. Upon arrival, they found a man suffering from bodily trauma. The victim was taken to a hospital where he died of his injuries on May 27. After completion of an autopsy on July 31, the Jackson County Medical Examiner’s Office declared his death a homicide.

Just after midnight, officers responded to the area of East 23rd Street and Topping Avenue on a reported traffice crash. While en route, officers were told that a person had been shot inside the vehicle. Arriving officers found an unresponsive man inside and he was taken to a hospital. Several hours later, detectives were told the man had died.

Police responded to the 1800 block of Hardesty, near East High School, on a shooting call around 10:30 p.m. and found Rodriguez unresponsive inside a vehicle. He was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries, but died April 14.

42. Kourtney Freeman, 11, on April 10

Officers responded shortly after 9:45 p.m. Wednesday to investigate reports of shots being fired near East 33rd Street and Flora Avenue. While officers were en route, they were told that there had been a shooting and the victim was inside a home in the 3300 block of Flora in the Linwood Homeowners-Ivanhoe neighborhood. The girl was taken to a hospital, where she died shortly thereafter.

41. Nancy Stinnett, 58, on April 9

Officers responded at 10 p.m. to investigate the sound of shots being fired in the 3000 block of East 32nd Street in the Santa Fe neighborhood of Kansas City. When they arrived, they were directed inside a home where they found an unresponsive woman, who was pronounced dead.

40. Austin J. Davis, 26, on April 5

Officers responded shortly after 3 p.m. to East Gregory Boulevard and Prospect Avenue to investigate a reported shooting. There, they found an unresponsive man outside a business. The victim later died at a hospital.

39. Terry L. Shields, 49, April 5

Officers were summoned around 9:50 p.m. to the 8500 block of Wallace Avenue, where they found the injured victim in the street. Paramedics arrived a short time later and pronounced Shields dead at the scene.

38. Christopher J. Ball, 39, on April 5

Officers responded around 1 p.m. to the 5600 block of East 31st Street on reports of the sound of gunfire. They found a man suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Police performed life saving measures and Emergency Medical Services pronounced the man dead at the scene.

At about 9:30 p.m., officers heard shots being fired near the area of East 27th Street and Van Brunt Boulevard, which is the border of East Community Team South and South Blue Valley neighborhoods in Kansas City. When officers went to the area where they believed the gunfire came from, they found a man suffering from a gunshot wound. Emergency medical workers declared the man deceased. Another man, who also had been shot, was found nearby and was taken to the hospital.

When they arrived to the area of East 55th Street and Michigan Avenue, police found a male victim in the street with apparent gunshot wounds. Emergency medical crews arrived and declared him dead at the scene.

34. Dominique McGeachy, 38, and 35. Jerel D. McGeachy, 12, on April 1

Officers were called to the 8300 block of NW 90th Street on a welfare check after a family member called 911 around 9:45 a.m. with a report that the child, a boy, had not arrived at school and that the woman had not arrived at work. Officers entered the home and found the two victims and an additional victim dead from apparent bodily trauma. All the involved parties were related and Jerel’s father appeared to have died by a self-inflicted wound.

Officers responded to a shooting just after 9 a.m. in the 1300 block of East 89th Street. The caller told police a man was shot and unresponsive. Police found the man inside a nearby home with apparent gunshot wounds. Emergency medical crews responded and declared him dead at the scene.

32. Leo A. Dorch, 59, on March 31

Kansas City police were called for help around 5:50 a.m. to the 4000 block of Myrtle Avenue, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol. The circumstances of the call were unknown.

Officers said they saw a male subject, whose age wasn’t specified, walking the street in front of a nearby residence with a handgun. Police tried to get the subject to drop the gun for several minutes. The person then allegedly pointed the gun in the direction of the officers, leading multiple officers to fire their weapons, the highway patrol said. Police took the person into custody, and he was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

A man died after a Gladstone police officer and two Clay County sheriff’s deputies shot at him during a traffic stop in the area of North Garfield Avenue and Northeast Englewood Road, in Kansas City. The man died at the scene of the incident.

Officers responded around 1:45 a.m. to 28th Terrace and Cleveland Avenue on a shooting call. They found Pickett with an apparent gunshot wound in a wooded area next to a parking lot. He was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Officers responded to a shooting shortly after 8 a.m. near East 67th Street and Cleveland Avenue in the Foxtown East neighborhood of Kansas City. There, officers found a man in a parking lot next to a business. The victim was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.

28. Willie Spencer, 45, on March 20

Officers responded around 5 a.m. to the area of West 38th and Wyandotte streets, where they found an unresponsive man who had been shot in the street. Emergency medical crews declared Spencer dead at the scene.

27. Levi Warner, 35, on March 17

Officers responded around 1:26 a.m. to the area of 94th Terrace and Cable Road, where they found a man who had been shot. Emergency medical crews declared the man dead at the scene.

Officers responded around 3:15 p.m. to the 3600 block of Mersington Avenue on a reported shooting. They found an adult man suffering from a gunshot wound and rendered aid to the man as Emergency Medical Services responded.

The victim was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Officers responded to a shooting around 4:30 a.m. in the 4800 block of Independence Avenue, where they found an unresponsive man who had been shot lying in a parking lot. Emergency medical crews declared the man dead at the scene. Police found another man who had been shot inside a nearby business. He was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Officers responded just after 5:30 a.m. to a residence near the 7300 block of Park Road. Police found two adult male victims with apparent gunshot wounds. Emergency Medical Services responded with police and transported one of the victims to a hospital for treatment. The other victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police believe the shooting happened after an argument between multiple people when a man opened fire.

Officers were called around 12:45 a.m. to the University of Kansas Medical Center, where two men with gunshot trauma were taken by private vehicle. Both men were pronounced dead at the hospital. Police believe the shooting occurred in a wooded area within Kansas City limits.

Officers responded just after 6 p.m. to the area of Front Street and North Century Avenue on a call that a dead body had been found. Police found an unresponsive man, who appeared to be injured. Emergency medical services declared the man dead at the scene.

19. Mauliek Taylor, 28 on Feb. 27

Officers were called to the parking lot of an apartment building in the 5100 block of Hickory Road shortly before 7 p.m., according a KCPD news release. Taylor was found unresponsive next to a vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene. Preliminary findings indicate Taylor was in an interaction in the parking lot with one or more people that led to gunfire.

18. Quincy Hill, 32, on Feb. 25

Officers responded to reports of gunfire about 2:30 a.m. in the 4700 block of Independence Avenue. There, officers learned multiple people had been shot and were taken to the hospital by private vehicles. Two victims had non-life-threatening injuries and one had life threatening injuries. A fourth victim was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Officers responded around 9:40 p.m. to a report of shots fired in the 3200 block of East 32nd Street. A man was found suffering from gunshot wounds near 32nd Street. He was pronounced dead at the scene. A second gunshot victim who suffered injuries described as not life-threatening showed up at a Kansas City Fire Department station on Indiana Avenue.

Officers responded just before midnight to the 3600 block of Oakley Avenue, where they found a woman with unknown bodily trauma in a field. Emergency medical crews declared the woman dead at the scene.

Officers responded to the shooting about 12:30 a.m. in the 11200 block of Booth Avenue, where they found a man suffering from gunshot wounds in the front yard of a home. He was taken to a hospital where he later died. Officers were then directed to a nearby home where they found a teen who had been shot. He was declared dead at the scene. Another man was injured in the shooting.

Twenty-two people were shot during the Kansas City Chiefs Super Bowl rally at Union Station. Lisa Lopez-Galvan, a Johnson County mother of two and beloved disc jockey, was killed, friends told The Star after talking with family. Other shooting victims included nine children, ages 6 to 15.

Officers were dispatched around 7:45 p.m to the 1600 block of Jackson Avenue on a reported shooting. Responding police officers found a residence with its door open and went inside to investigate. A man was found suffering from apparent gunshot wounds in the living room. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

11. Antonio G. Mitchel, 45, on Feb. 13

Officers responded shortly before 5 p.m. to the 6400 block of The Paseo Bouelvard for a reported shooting. A gunshot victim was located in an apartment complex parking lot and pronounced dead. A suspect was arrested at the scene.

Officers responded shortly after 2 a.m. to a shooting in the area of 39th Street and Woodland Avenue, where they found two men shot and unresponsive on the ground. Emergency medical crews declared one of the men dead at the scene. The other was taken to a hospital with life-threatening injuries, where he was later pronounced dead.

Officers responded to a shooting just after 12:30 a.m. in the area of East 50th Street and Bellefontaine Avenue, where they found a woman shot and unresponsive on the sidewalk. Emergency medical crews declared the woman dead at the scene.

7. Za’Riah M Thomas eight weeks old, on Feb. 9

Officers responded to a report of an infant not breathing in the 4100 block of Forest Avenue. A suspicious death investigation was opened when a 1-month-old girl was found dead in the home with apparent thermal injuries. Her mother told police she mistakenly put the infant in an oven instead of her crib. Police later classified the case as a homicide.

6. Mark A. Jenkins, 59, on Feb. 7

Officers responded to a shooting call around 10:15 p.m. in the area of Brush Creek Boulevard and Virginia Avenue, where they spoke to the 911 callers, who said they saw the man unresponsive and assumed he had been shot. Emergency medical crews declared the man dead at the scene, and detectives determined he didn’t die of natural causes or by accident.

5. Niko M. Gonzales, 26, Jan. 31

Just before 11 a.m. Jan. 31, officers responded to the 100 block of West 99th Terrace on a reported shooting. Officers found a victim who suffered from an apparent gun shot wound in the parking garage of the apartment complex.

Emergency Medical Services transported Gonzales to a hospital and he was admitted under critical condition. On Feb. 3, officers were notified he died from his injuries.

Officers responded to a reported disturbance around 6 p.m. at the Country View Market, 5802 Swope Parkway. Police located a man suffering from gunshot wounds near the storefront. Ruth was pronounced dead at the scene.

3. Ka’Marr A. Brown, 18, Jan. 20

Officers responded to reports of the sound of shots fired around 12:30 a.m. near the 10700 block of Marsh Avenue. Before officers arrived at the scene, the call was updated to a shooting. When officers arrived, they found Brown lying on the ground with an apparent gunshot wound. Emergency medical services pronounced him dead at the scene.

2. John Bartrom, 41, on Jan. 7

Officers responded to a medical call just after midnight to the 6200 block of Prospect Avenue, where they found a man lying unresponsive in a nearby business’ parking lot. The man appeared to be suffering from a medical emergency, so officers rendered aid until emergency medical services arrived to take him to a hospital.

It was later discovered the man had been shot. He was pronounced dead at the hospital.

1. Vonzell Bryant, 70, on Jan. 3

Officers responded to a medical call shortly before 10 p.m. where they met emergency medical workers in the yard of a home in the 2600 block of Agnes Avenue in the Washington-Wheatley neighborhood of Kansas City. The emergency medical workers were rendering aid to the victim who was suffering from unknown “bodily trauma.” The victim later was identified as “Captain” Vonzell Bryant.

23. Nicholas Brooks, 17, on Nov. 30

Officers responded about 11:20 a.m. to check on reports of a person who was dead inside a vehicle near North Second Street and Quindaro Boulevard, said Officer Jovanna Cheatum with the Kansas City, Kansas, Police Department. Arriving officers discovered the man had been shot.

Police were called around 5 p.m. to the area of Sixth Street and Splitlog Avenue on reports of a shooting. There, they found a man with a gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

21. Terry D. Moore Jr., 35, on Oct. 5

Officers were dispatched just after 1 a.m. to the 500 block of Barnett Ave. in Kansas City Kansas’ Strawberry Hill neighborhood on a report of a person lying in the road. They found a man with apparent gunshot wounds and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Officers were dispatched just after 7 a.m. to the area of North 49th Drive and Dickinson Road in Kansas City Kansas’ Nearman neighborhood on a report of a person lying in the road. They found a man with apparent gunshot wounds.

Paramedics pronounced the man dead at the scene.

Officers responded around 10:42 to the area of North 7th Street and Parallel Parkway on reports of a person lying in the street. They found a man with apparent gunshot wounds in the road. Paramedics responded and pronounced the man dead at the scene.

18. David Dawkins, 47, on Aug. 24

Officers were dispatched just before 1:30 a.m. to the 900 block of Washington Boulevard on a reported shooting. They found a man outside with a gunshot wound. The man was alert and transported to a hospital where he was in critical condition Saturday, said Officer T.J. Tomasic, a spokesperson with KCK police.

Officers later found another man with a gunshot wound in the 800 block of Washington Boulevard. He was taken to the hospital where he later died from his injuries.

17. Howard Nichols, 42, on Aug. 15

Wyandotte County Sheriff deputies responded about 9 p.m. to a shooting at Edgerton Park at North Third Street and Edgerton Drive in Kansas City, Kansas. There, they found Nichols who had been shot. He was taken to a hospital where he later died.

16. Branden Baskin, 18, on July 21

Officers responded to Klamm Park around 6:26 p.m., where they found Baskin deceased with a gunshot wound. Three people were arrested and one was charged with murder the same week.

15. Unknown male on July 8

Officers responded shortly before 6:30 p.m. Monday to a reported disturbance in the 900 block of Cleveland Avenue where they found a male victim, whose age was not released, dead in the street from what appeared to be blunt trauma. Two people were detained as persons of interest.

14. Michael Welch, 17, on June 26

A teen was killed in a shooting outside a residence on the 4900 block of Steele Road, according to police. Welch was pronounced dead at the scene, and two others were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening gunshot injuries.

13. Justin R. Diaz, 25, on June 18

A man was killed in a shooting on the 2000 block of N. 33rd Terrace, according to police. Officers responded around 11:46 a.m. to reports of gunfire and found an adult man outside a home with a gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

12. Jason A. Burk, 41, on May 27

Police fatally shot Burk in the area of U.S. 69 and the 18th Street Expressway following a vehicle pursuit. Burk allegedly stole a vehicle at gunpoint, and police later spotted the vehicle and gave chase. A highway patrol trooper forced the vehicle Burk was driving to spin out, and Burk allegedly fired shots at officers. Officers from both Kansas City, Missouri, and Kansas City, Kansas, returned fire, fatally striking him multiple times.

One man was killed and another was injured in a shooting in the 4000 block of Lawrence Drive, police said. When officers arrived, they found a man with an apparent gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The second victim who was shot was taken to an area hospital.

The incident occurred around 11:15 p.m. in the area of 7th Street Trafficway and Interstate 35 as the officer was investigating the stolen vehicle. Three people ran from the vehicle, and the officer chased after them. The Kansas Bureau of Investigation said the man who fired at the officer had “hid in thick brush and fired at the officer from behind.”

9. LaToya Seamster, 42, on May 7

Officers responded around 11:44 p.m. to the 1900 block of North Hallock Street after a man walked into the emergency room at the University of Kansas Medical Center and told police he killed someone. When police arrived on North Hallock, they found a dead woman who had been shot inside a home.

8. Kenton Williams, 45, on May 3

Around 10:30 a.m., officers were called to the 2400 block of Alden Street. Upon arrival, officers found one man dead with multiple gunshot wounds.

7. Javier Benitez-Pizarro, 46, on May 2

Officers responded around 12:47 a.m. to the 1700 block of Cleveland Avenue, where they found three men who had been shot. One of the men, who police found outside a residence, was pronounced dead at the scene.

6. Gerald Jones II, 22, on April 22

Officers responded just before 7:30 p.m. to a shooting in the 6000 block of Leavenworth Road, where they found a man who had been shot in the parking lot of a business. Emergency medical crews declared the man dead at the scene.

5. Chris Jones, 15, on March 28

Police were called to the 3700 block of State Avenue shortly before 8 p.m. on a reported shooting and found two men suffering from gunshot wounds inside a vehicle. One of the men was pronounced dead at the scene, and the other man was taken to an area hospital.

4. Alfredo Reyes, 43, on Feb. 25

Officers responded to the disturbance shortly after 10:30 p.m. Sunday in the 2000 block of North 57th Street in the Bethel Welborn neighborhood of Kansas City, Kansas. There, they found a man who had apparent stab wounds and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

3. Cesar Tadeo, 53, on Feb. 19

Officers responded around 4:35 p.m. to the 200 block of South 11th Street, where they found a man who had been shot. He was taken to a hospital for treatment and succumbed to his injuries days later.

2. Sergio Ramirez, 19, on Feb. 20

Officers responded to a report of shots fired near North 18th Street and Parallel Parkway. An officer was flagged down and directed to a shooting victim, a man, who was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. A second shooting victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

1. Peter Long, 42, on Feb. 17

Officers were dispatched around 2:47 a.m. to the Southridge Apartments in the 1100 block of County Line Road on a shooting call. Police said they discovered an adult male inside an apartment with apparent gunshot wounds. Long was pronounced dead at the scene.

INDEPENDENCE

11. Unknown man on Dec. 5

Officers responded about 2:45 a.m. Thursday to a reported shooting at the apartment complex in the the 19100 block of East 37th Terrace South, a police spokesman said. Arriving officers found a deceased man inside one of the apartments. Another gunshot victim showed up at a hospital.

10. Preston Bell, 19, on Nov. 24

Police responded about 4:45 p.m. to a medical call on the exit ramp from southbound I-435 to Truman Road, said Sgt. Phil DiMartino with the Kansas City Police Department. Arriving officers found the man inside with a gunshot wound. DiMartino said the victim was declared dead at the scene. Investigators later determined the man had been shot in Independence.

8. Maria Pike, 34 and 9. Destinii Hope, 2 months, on Nov. 7

Officers responded about 1:40 p.m. to a reported domestic violence disturbance at an apartment in the Oval Springs apartments, 16801 E. Larkspur Lane. After officers arrived, a police shooting occurred, leaving the woman and child dead. Residents were told that it was a mother and her infant who were killed.

7. Donnie M. Kirkland, 20, on June 5

Officers responded around 12:50 p.m. to reports of a shooting at Sundown Drive and Claremont Avenue, near the Sugar Creek Apartments. Police said they discovered an adult male with gunshot injuries, who was pronounced dead shortly after at a local hospital.

6. Ellen Wiggs, 72, on May 3

A uniformed Independence police officer working off-duty at Centerpoint Medical Center responded to an assault on the sixth floor in the intensive care unit around 11:22 p.m. The victim was unresponsive and a Code Blue had been called earlier in the night around 8:30 p.m. Once a pulse was regained, she had been moved to the second floor of the ICU. She was later pronounced dead after allegedly being choked.

Officers responded just after midnight to the area of West South and South Woodland avenues, where they found a man who had been shot. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

4. Juan Carlos Venegas on April 3

Police responded to a shooting about 11:30 p.m. in the 8700 block of U.S. 24 highway where they found the victim. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

3. Drexel Mack, 41, and 5. Cody Allen, 35, on Feb. 29

Independence police officers, including Allen, and Mack, a civil process server, were carrying out an eviction at Larry Dean Acree’s former private residence in the 1100 block of Elsea Smith Road near Bundschu Road. Acree allegedly started shooting after police announced their presence and used a drill to remove locks from the door. Mack and Allen were shot along with two other officers. They were taken to a hospital and pronounced dead.

2. Sief Bani-Khalid, 32, on Feb. 22

Two Independence police officers shot and killed a man outside a residence after responding to a 4:40 p.m. call of possible shots fired in the 700 block of North Frandsen Road. Police said the man was shot after the officers issued commands. He was encountered in a doorway to a residence. A firearm was found where the man was shot and a fanny pack containing ammunition was around his waist, according to police. Both officers were put on leave during a use-of-deadly force investigation.

1. Jessika Koehler, 47, and 2. Janessa Russell, 44, on Feb. 9

Officers were dispatched around 5:30 p.m. to a home in the 1300 block of North Lynn Street for a reported shooting. Two women were found suffering from fatal gunshot wounds. An ex-boyfriend of one of the women was also shot and wounded. He allegedly approached the house with a pistol before gunfire was exchanged.

GRANDVIEW

1. Derrick Judie Jr., 19, on July 27

Officers responded just after 9:30 p.m. to the intersection of East 119th Street and Delmar Drive on reports of the sound of gunshots. In the backyard of a residence, officers found a man unresponsive with gunshot wounds. He was taken to a hospital by ambulance, where he was later pronounced dead.

LENEXA

1. Markese D. Gleghorn, 21, on Jan. 13

Officers responded to an armed disturbance around 7 p.m. to a McDonald’s at 13330 W. 87th St. Parkway. When police arrived, they found a man inside a vehicle who had been shot. Officers attempted life-saving measures, but the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

OLATHE

2. Unknown woman, 72, on June 29

Officers responded around 5:53 p.m. to the 1000 block of East Oakview Street, where they found an unresponsive 72-year-old woman with “significant injuries.” The woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

1. Brianna Rachelle Higgins, 15, on Jan. 19

Officers were contacted by Olathe Medical Center just before 11 p.m. when a 15-year-old girl arrived with an apparent gunshot wound. When officers arrived at the hospital, they helped bring Higgins into the hospital for life-saving measures. She was later pronounced dead.

Officers determined that the shooting happened near the 16900 block of West 127th Street.

RAYTOWN

3. Kenneth R. Williams, 32, on Nov. 9

Officers with the Raytown Police Department responded just after midnight to 8733 East 63rd Street on a call about an altercation between a man and a private security guard. At the scene, officers were told the suspect made threats of having firearms and explosives in his vehicle, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

The man left the gas station on foot before police arrived, but later returned. Officers saw the man moving toward his vehicle, and they began giving him commands. As the man began to enter his vehicle, a Raytown police officer shot at him, striking him, the release said.

The man was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.

2. Alice Darge, 34, on July 14

Police were called to the 8400 block of Greenwood Road, where they found a woman who had been shot. The woman was taken to a hospital, where she died. A witness reported Darge and a man, who was later arrested and charged for the shooting, had been arguing.

1. Raymond Rucker, 18, on April 7

Officers responded to reports of shots being fired about 5:10 p.m. in the 9000 block of East 85th Place, which is near Lane Avenue and East 87th Street. About an hour later, officers were advised that someone had driven a shooting victim to a hospital. Police determined that victim had been shot in the street on 85th Place. The victim later died from the injuries.

SHAWNEE

1. Brett Smiley, 43, on Feb. 18

Officers responded to a robbery at the QuikTrip in the 20600 block of Shawnee Mission Parkway around 11 a.m. They also received a call regarding someone shooting a firearm from a truck on K-7 Highway. When they arrived, officers were told that shots were being fired inside the gas station. An officer then shot Smiley, the alleged armed suspect, who was taken to the hospital in critical condition and died the same day.

BLUE SPRINGS

1. LeDronal Hamilton Jr, 19, and 2. Karmello Matlock, 20, on April 14

Police responded around 10:30 p.m. to Wilbur Young Park on a shooting call where they found Hamilton Jr. and Matlock. Both were taken to the hospital where they were declared dead.
