Man dies weeks after shooting on Prospect Avenue, Kansas City police say

Editors note: An earlier version of this story stated Brewer died weeks after a June 22 shooting in Kansas City’s Historic Jazz District, following a press release from the Kansas City Police Department . Police have since stated they released Brewer’s name in regard to that incident in error, and his death stemmed from a different incident.

A man is dead following a shooting June 15 on Prospect Avenue, according to a press release from Kansas City Police Department officer Alayna Gonzalez.

Officers were dispatched to the area of East Truman Road and Prospect Avenue on June 15 around 3:24 a.m., according to the press release.

There, officers found 24-year-old Jalin Brewer suffering gunshot wounds in a vehicle, according to a press release. He was transported to an area hospital.

On June 30, detectives were notified Brewer had succumbed to his injuries, according to the press release.

After a preliminary investigation, detectives believe the incident was the result of an argument that escalated to gunfire, according to the press release.
