Update: Kansas City police have identified the victim as 45-year-old Terrance M. Bell.

A man died several hours after he was shot in east Kansas City on Saturday morning, according to police.

Officers with the Kansas City Police Department responded around 10:20 a.m. to reports of a shooting in the 4200 block of East Linwood Avenue in the Knoches Park neighborhood of Kansas City, according to Officer Alayna Gonzalez, a KCPD spokesperson.

Responding officers encountered a man with several gunshot wounds, which Gonzalez described as “life-threatening.” Officers attempted to stabilize the wounded victim until the Kansas City Fire Department arrived and transported him to a nearby hospital, Gonzalez said.

KCPD initially classified the shooting as an aggravated assault, according to Gonzalez. Hospital staff notified the officers later Saturday that the man had succumbed to his injuries and been pronounced deceased within several hours of arriving.

The victim has not yet been publicly identified, and KCPD has not named a person of interest in the shooting.

The shooting now classified as a-homicide was the third killing reported during a violent weekend in Kansas City, as temperatures soared above 90 degrees across the region.

The shooting was also the 77th homicide reported in Kansas City in 2025, according to data collected by The Star. At the same time last year, 72 homicides had been reported in the city, according to Star data.
