Man found fatally shot on sidewalk in Kansas City’s Oak Park neighborhood
Police are investigating a fatal shooting that occurred in Kansas City’s Oak Park neighborhood Friday morning.
Officers were called to the area of East 39th Street and Chestnut Avenue around 11 a.m. on a reported shooting and found a man lying on a sidewalk unresponsive and suffering from gunshot trauma, said Officer Alayna Gonzalez, a spokeswoman for the Kansas City Police Department.
The victim was declared dead at the scene.
Gonzalez said detectives were working to gather evidence and take witness statements. No one was in custody for the shooting as of midday Friday, she said.

The killing is Kansas City’s 126th homicide of 2025, according to a data kept by The Star, which includes fatal police shootings. At this point last year, the city had recorded 131 homicides.
