Update: Police have reclassified the incident as a homicide, according to an email from Kansas City Police Department Capt. Jake Becchina. The victim was identified as 17-year-old Camren A. English.

A man was found dead of a gunshot wound in the Ivanhoe neighborhood of Kansas City Sunday morning, according to police.

Officers with the Kansas City Police Department responded to the 3700 block of Flora Avenue around 6:00 a.m. following reports of a shooting, according to Officer Alayna Gonzalez, a KCPD spokesperson.

Upon responding, officers encountered a car parked on the curb facing backwards, with an unresponsive man inside. The man, who has not been publicly identified, was found with a gunshot wound, according to Gonzalez.

The responding officers attempted lifesaving measures until emergency medical responders arrived and transported the man to a nearby hospital, where he died shortly after arrival, Gonzalez said.

The death was initially reported as a homicide, but KCPD reclassified it to a death investigation around 8:45 a.m. Officers are currently reviewing surveillance footage from the area of the shooting and seeking witnesses around the neighborhood, Gonzalez said.
