One man is dead and another is critically injured after a double shooting in Kansas City’s Northland late Tuesday afternoon, according to police.

Kansas City police officers responded to a disturbance in the 3900 block of N. Lister Avenue around 4:30 p.m., according to Officer Alayna Gonzalez, a Kansas City Police Department spokesperson. While they were on their way, the incident was upgraded to a shooting.

Responding officers found an adult man lying outside a nearby home with gunshot wounds, according to Gonzalez. The man was transported to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Officers also found another man inside the house with gunshot wounds, according to Gonzalez. The man was also taken to a nearby hospital, where he was in critical condition Tuesday night.

KCPD believes that the shooting resulted from an argument, according to Gonzalez. Police have not yet determined whether the two victims knew each other, or whether anyone else was involved in the shooting.

Tuesday’s shooting was the tenth homicide reported in Kansas City in 2025, according to data collected by The Star. At this time last year, two homicides had been reported in the city.
