Update: The deceased has been identified as Amauri Holland-Williams, 18.

A man was killed in a shooting in a residential neighborhood in southeast Kansas City Monday, police said.

Officers responded at 7:30 p.m. to East 56th Street and Westridge Road to a reported shooting. They found a man in the yard of a residence suffering from a gunshot wound. Several witnesses were helping the victim as officers arrived, police said.

Sgt. Phil DiMartino, a spokesman with the Kansas City Police Department, said in an email that officers took over rendering aid to the victim until paramedics arrived. The man was taken to a hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

Police have not yet publicly identified the victim.

Detectives are working to determine what led up to the shooting, which is being investigated as a homicide, DiMartino said. Police were gathering witness statements and processing the scene for evidence.

The killing is Kansas City’s 11th homicide of 2025, according to data maintained by The Star. At this time last year, the city had recorded 3 homicides.

If anyone has any information they are asked to contact Homicide detectives directly at 816-234-5043 or the TIPS Hotline anonymously at 816-474-8477. There is a reward of up to $25,000 for information submitted anonymously to the TIPS hotline.
