A man died in a shooting in the Volker neighborhood, near the Westport neighborhood of Kansas City Monday night, according to police.

Kansas City police officers responded to the 3400 block of Wyoming Avenue shortly before 6 p.m. on reports of a shooting, according to Sgt. Phil DiMartino, a KCPD spokesperson.

Responders found a man on the ground with a gunshot wound, according to DiMartino. The man was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead shortly after arriving.

Police believe that a fight among multiple people in building’s parking lot led to the shooting. Homicide detectives are still seeking witnesses, and no one has been taken into custody in relation to the shooting as of Monday night.

The shooting was the 20th homicide reported in Kansas City this year, and the second reported Monday, according to data collected by The Star. At this time last year, seven homicides had been reported in the city, according to Star data.
