Woman dies after being found shot in front yard of home on Kansas City’s East Side
Update: On Monday, police identified the victim as 56-year-old Pamela Ahmed, said Capt. Jake Becchina, a spokesman with the Kansas City Police Department.
Police responding to a shooting found a woman fatally shot Saturday evening in the front yard of a home in Kansas City’s South Blue Valley neighborhood, a police spokesman said.
Dispatchers sent patrol officers to investigate a reported shooting shortly before 7 p.m. in the 5600 block of East 29th Street on Kansas City’s East Side, said Sgt. Phil DiMartino with the Kansas City Police Department.
Arriving officers were directed to the front yard in the neighborhood where they found a woman suffering from gunshot wounds, DiMartino said. Emergency medical crews declared the woman deceased.
Police are investigating the woman’s death as a homicide. No one was in custody, DiMartino said.
Detectives and crime scene investigators collected evidence and canvassed the area, looking for witnesses and any surveillance video footage to help determine what led up to the deadly shooting, DiMartino said.
Further details about the shooting, including any suspect information, were not released.
The death is Kansas City’s 36th homicide of the year, according to data tracked by The Star, which includes fatal police shootings. That compares to 31 homicides reported by this time last year.
Kansas City has gotten off to a deadly start this year, with homicides slightly trailing its deadliest year in 2023, when there were 185 killings in the city. By this time that year, there were 39 homicides.
Detectives ask that anyone with any information about the homicide call the TIPS Hotline anonymously at 816-474-TIPS (8744). Information submitted anonymously to the hotline can earn a reward of up to $25,000. Witnesses can also contact homicide detectives at 816-234-5043.
The KCPD assists victims of violent crimes through Missouri’s Protection Program for Victims/Witnesses of Violent Crime, which may provide funding for temporary or permanent relocation.
The department also works with Partners for Peace to monitor risks for retaliation and provide social services to those affected.
