One dead, one injured in Kansas City, Kansas, shooting, after police called to 2 scenes

A Kansas City, Kansas, shooting left a woman dead and a man injured on Monday morning, police say.
Detectives responded to two separate calls for gunshot victims several minutes apart, but believe the two incidents are related, saying the shooting likely occurred in the 5100 block of Leavenworth Road, according to spokesperson T.J. Tomasic.
Around 10:59 a.m., officers were sent to the 5100 block of Leavenworth Road for a shooting. On the scene, officers allegedly found a woman outside a home suffering from gunshot wounds.
She was transported to a local hospital where she later died of her injuries, Tomasic said. The woman was later identified as Denise Byrd, 40.
Three minutes later, officers received another call for a shooting in the 4900 block of Cleveland Avenue, less than a mile from the first shooting. At that address, officers allegedly found a man with a gunshot wound, Tomasic said.
He was transported to an area hospital, where he is in stable condition.
The shooting is under investigation by the KCKPD Major Case Unit. People with information are asked to call the Crime Stoppers TIPS hotline at 816-474-TIPS (8477). All tips remain anonymous and may qualify for a cash reward.
