Man found dead in car after Thursday night shooting, KC police say

A man died in a shooting in southeast Kansas City Thursday night, according to police.

Officers with the Kansas City Police Department responded to a report of gunfire at 5:30 p.m. at 54th Street and Euclid Avenue, according to Sgt. Phil DiMartino, a KCPD spokesperson. As officers approached, they received word that the incident had been upgraded to a shooting and had moved a block over to 55th Street and Euclid.

When they arrived, responding officers found a man in a vehicle with a gunshot wound, DiMartino said. The man was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead shortly after arriving.

The victim was later identified as Ian Walker, 45.

Officers believe there was an altercation that led to the shooting, DiMartino said. Detectives are still investigating the shooting and have not publicly identified a suspect.

Thursday’s shooting is the 43rd homicide reported in Kansas City in 2025, according to data collected by The Star. At this time last year, 44 homicides had been reported in the city, according to Star data.
