Update: The deceased has been identified as Jabrielle Francis, 21.

One man died in a shooting in Kansas City’s North Town Fork Creek neighborhood early Tuesday morning, police said.

Officers responded just before 2:30 a.m. to East 51st Street and Indiana Avenue on a call for an ambulance en route. They found a man outside a vehicle near the intersection suffering from apparent gunshot wounds, said Phil DiMartino, a spokesman with the Kansas City Police Department.

Paramedics responded and pronounced the victim dead at the scene.

The shooting is being investigated as a homicide, DiMartino said. Investigators are trying to determine what led up to the shooting.

Police have not yet publicly released the name or age of the victim.

The killing is Kansas City’s 143rd homicide of 2024, according to data maintained by The Star, which includes fatal police shootings. At this time last year, the city had recorded 175 homicides.
