Update: The deceased has been identified as Terry D. Moore Jr., 35, of Kansas City, Kansas.

One man died in a shooting in east Kansas City, Kansas, Saturday morning, according to police.

Officers were dispatched just after 1 a.m. to the 500 block of Barnett Ave. in Kansas City, Kansas’, Strawberry Hill neighborhood on a report of a person lying in the road. They found a man with apparent gunshot wounds and he was pronounced dead at the scene, said T.J. Tomasic, a spokesman with the Kansas City, Kansas, Police Department, in an email.

Police did not say what may have led up to the shooting. As of Saturday morning, the victim had not yet been identified.

The killing is the 21st homicide of 2024 in Kansas City Kansas, according to data tracked by The Star. At this time last year, the city had recorded 19 homicides.
