33-year-old man killed when gunshots fired during disturbance in Kansas City
A 33-year-old man died in a shooting during a disturbance Wednesday night in Kansas City, a police spokesman said.
The victim was identified as Michael Dehaan, said Sgt. Phil DiMartino with the Kansas City Police Department.
At about 8:45 p.m., officers responded to a reported shooting in the 3300 block of East Linwood Boulevard, on the border of Kansas City’s Santa Fe and Oak Park Northwest neighborhoods.
Arriving officers found Dehaan suffering from a gunshot wound. DiMartino said emergency medical workers took Dehaan to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Detectives and crime scene investigators interviewed witnesses and collected evidence to determine what led up to the shooting.
The killing is Kansas City’s 97th homicide of the year, according to data tracked by The Star, which includes fatal police shootings. By this time in 2023, which was Kansas City’s deadliest year, there were 133 killings. Last year, the city ended the year with a total of 185 homicides.
