A man who was shot near Swope Parkway earlier this week has died from his injuries, police said.

Officers responded around midnight Monday to a shooting in the 2600 block of Swope Parkway. There, they found a man with gunshot wounds, and said he was taken to a hospital by ambulance in critical condition.

Around noon Wednesday, the man died from his injuries, Alayna Gonzalez, a spokeswoman with Kansas City police, said in a news release.

The identity of the victim has not yet been released.

Detectives are still trying to determine what led to the shooting. They believe the shooting stemmed from an argument between several people, Gonzalez said. Police did not say how many people may have fired weapons.

Detectives are working to identify witnesses and process evidence to identify suspects. As of Wednesday, there were no suspects and no one was in custody.

The killing is Kansas City’s 68th homicide of 2024, according to data maintained by The Star, which includes fatal police shootings. At this time last year, there were 84 homicides reported in Kansas City.
