One man dead after Friday afternoon shooting near 31st Street in Kansas City: Police
One man died after a shooting Friday afternoon in Kansas City, police said.
Officers responded around 1 p.m. to the 5600 block of East 31st Street on reports of the sound of gunfire. They found a man suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
Police performed life-saving measures and Emergency Medical Services pronounced the man dead at the scene, police said in a news release.
Police later identified the victim as 39-year-old Christopher J. Ball.
The incident is being investigated as a homicide and detectives are working to determine what led to the shooting.
The killing is the 37th homicide of 2024 in Kansas City, according to data maintained by The Star, which includes fatal police shootings.
