Kansas City homicide detectives investigate after 78-year-old man dies with head injury
Police are investigating a homicide after a 78-year-old man died on Sunday, hours after he was found in Kansas City’s Northland lying on the concrete suffering from apparent head trauma.
At about 9:30 a.m. on Sunday, Shoal Creek patrol division officers were dispatched to the 4100 block of N. Brighton Avenue in response to an assault. When they arrived, they located the victim, who was identified as 78-year-old Harold Alderson.
A witness at the scene told officers that Alderson and another adult male had been in a verbal argument that turned into a physical altercation. During the fight, the witness said, Alderson fell and struck his head, according to police.
Emergency responders transported Alderson to the hospital in critical condition. At about 3:47 p.m., detectives were notified he had died from his injuries.
Police said a “subject of interest” has been identified and detectives are working to locate him.
