Man found shot to death near railroad tracks in KCK neighborhood, police say

One man died in a shooting in a neighborhood just south of the Missouri River in Kansas City, Kansas on Thursday, police said.

Officers were dispatched just after 7 a.m. to the area of North 49th Drive and Dickinson Road in Kansas City, Kansas’ Nearman neighborhood after a report of a person lying in the road. They found a man with apparent gunshot wounds.

Paramedics pronounced the man dead at the scene.

Police did not say what may have led to the shooting and no other information about the investigation was immediately available. As of Thursday morning, the victim had not yet been identified.

The killing is the 20th homicide in Kansas City, Kansas in 2024 so far, according to data tracked by The Star. At this time last year, Kansas City Kansas had recorded 19 homicides.
