Update: Police identified the victim as 48-year-old Reginald Lamar.

A man is dead after a shooting at a Little Caesars pizza restaurant in south Kansas City on Friday night.

Officers with the Kansas City Police Department were dispatched to the restaurant at 8700 Blue Ridge Blvd. around 8 p.m., said Capt. Jake Becchina, a KCPD spokesperson. They discovered a man unresponsive in the restaurant with gunshot wounds, Becchina said.

Emergency medical responders entered the business and declared the man dead at the scene, Becchina said.

Police detained another man at the scene as a suspect. The alleged shooter and the victim appear to have known each other and had allegedly gotten involved in an argument just before the shooting, Becchina said.

Several other Little Caesars customers and employees witnessed the shooting, Becchina said.

Friday’s shooting was the 130th homicide reported in Kansas City in 2024, and the fifth homicide in the city this week, according to data collected by The Star. At this time last year, 156 homicides had been reported in the city.
