One dead and one critically injured in east Kansas City homicide Sunday afternoon

One person is dead and another is seriously injured after a shooting in Kansas City Sunday afternoon.

Police were called to the area of Truman Road and Ewing Avenue where they found two victims shot in a vehicle. One victim, an adult man, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to Sgt. Philip DiMartino, spokesperson with the Kansas City Police Department.

The second victim, a woman, was taken to a hospital with critical injuries. No one has been taken into custody, but the incident is being investigated as a homicide, according to DiMartino.

Detectives are continuing to canvass the area for witnesses and physical evidence. Anyone with information is asked to call homicide detectives at 816-234-5043 or the TIPS hotline anonymously at 816-474-TIPS. There is a reward of up to $25,000 for information submitted anonymously to the TIPS hotline.

This killing marks Kansas City’s 134th homicide in 2024, compared to 162 this time last year, according to data tracked by the Star.
