One man is dead and another man is in the hospital after a shooting in a Kansas City neighborhood Wednesday, police say.

Officers responded around 3:15 p.m. to the 3600 block of Mersington Avenue on a reported shooting. They found an adult man suffering from a gunshot wound and rendered aid to the man as Emergency Medical Services responded.

The victim was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead, police said.

While officers were on the scene, they were informed another adult man came to a hospital with an apparent gunshot wound. His injuries were found to be non life-threatening.

Detectives are canvassing the area for witnesses and crime scene investigators are gathering evidence. Phillip DiMartino, a spokesman with Kansas City Police, said in a statement that the shooting may have stemmed from an argument.

“During the investigation, there was another shooting victim located (at a hospital) possibly in connection with this incident,” DiMartino said. “At this time, it’s still very early, but early indications are it stemmed from an argument.”

A man who lives on Mersington Avenue and did not want to be named, said he heard multiple gunshots when he got home from work. He said he saw police in the neighborhood less than 30 minutes later.
