19-year-old dies after Grandview police find him in a backyard with gunshot wounds

One man was killed in a shooting in Grandview last Wednesday, police said in a news release.

Officers responded just after 9:30 p.m. Wednesday to the intersection of East 119th Street and Delmar Drive on reports of the sound of gunshots.

In the backyard of a residence, officers found Derrick Judie Jr., 19, unresponsive with gunshot wounds. He was taken to a hospital by ambulance, where he was later pronounced dead.

Police said as of Saturday there are no suspects and the shooting is being investigated as a homicide.

The killing is Grandview’s first homicide of 2024, and the 115th homicide in the Kansas City metro on the year, according to data maintained by The Star.

No other information was immediately available Saturday.
