New in Kansas City in May: Two Westport venues, more Whataburgers, shuffleboard, more

Here’s our monthly update of Kansas City area restaurant, coffee shop and brewery openings and what will be coming soon.

Fountain Haus opened with great fanfare in the former HopCat space in Westport, and the long-awaited Tin Roof quietly opened across the street over the weekend. The Northland got a Capriotti’s Sandwich Shop. Ludo’s Shuffleboard Bar opened in midtown. Scimeca’s Ristorante is now operating in Shawnee. Hawaiian Bros Island Grill opened a to-go only operation in Overland Park.

But many openings have been pushed back because of staffing and supply chain issues.

▪ Great Harvest Bread Co., Corinth Square, 4002 W. 83rd St., Prairie Village. Plans to close Wednesday but is in talks for new franchisees to take over.

▪ Headrush Roasters Coffee & Tea, The Village at Briarcliff, 4115 N. Mulberry Drive. The location at 7108 N. Oak Trafficway also will be closed for a few months.

▪ Mud Pie Vegan Bakery, 1615 W. 39th St. The Overland Park location is still in operation.

▪ Underdog Wine Shop, Union Hill, 2984 Gillham Road. It still has a location in the Crestwood Shops.

▪ Acre restaurant, Parkville Commons, 6325 Lewis St., Parkville. Late May or early June.

▪ Andy’s Frozen Custard, Bluhawk, 7781 W. 159th St., Overland Park, for June. Another is planned for the northwest corner of 115th Street and Nall Avenue in Overland Park’s Galleria 115 but no opening date was available.

▪ Annedore’s Fine Chocolates, 11007 Johnson Drive, Shawnee. June opening scheduled.

▪ Barrio Mexican Kitchen + Bar, The Village at Briarcliff, 4125 N. Mulberry Drive. Mid-June.

▪ Flying Cow Gelato, 1903 W. 50th St., Westwood Hills. Next to sister company Annedore’s Fine Chocolates. Plans to open Friday.

▪ Joy Wok Super Buffet Hibachi Sushi, relocating to 12631 Metcalf Ave., Overland Park (from 11920 Metcalf), for a June opening.

▪ Moonshine Mule, 115 E. Gregory Blvd. Working on its liquor license.

▪ OZ Poke Ramen, Legends Outlets Kansas City, 1813 Village West Parkway, Suite Q-103, in Kansas City, Kansas. Hopes to open Wednesday.

▪ Prime Pizzeria, 1501 Grand Blvd. No opening date was available.

▪ Renegade coffee, 8708 N. Oak Trafficway. Late May opening

▪ Rosati’s Chicago Pizza, 8360 W. 151st St., Overland Park. Summer opening.

▪ 7 Brew Coffee, multiple locations including Blue Springs, Independence, the Northland, Lee’s Summit, and Overland Park (with a tentative address of 11007 Metcalf Ave.). No opening dates were available.

▪ Summersalt Ice Cream Co., Ranch Mart North, 3808 W. 95th St., Leawood. June 5 opening scheduled.

▪ Chicken Salad Chick planned a summer opening in Lee’s Summit. On Tuesday a spokeswoman for the chain said: “Due to unforeseen circumstances, the brand has had to delay this restaurant location and will no longer be opening in Lee’s Summit this year.”

▪ City Club Apartments, 1989 Main St. Chef Howard Hanna plans to open two operations — Afi natural wine bar and Small Axe modern diner — on the first floor of the apartments. August or September openings.

▪ Cold Stone Creamery and Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory, Ward Parkway Center, 8600 Ward Parkway. Spring or summer 2022.

▪ Cosmo Burger, Lenexa Public Market, 8750 Penrose Lane, Lenexa. Mid-summer opening.

▪ Dave’s Hot Chicken: A new franchisee plans 10 area locations with the first opening by the end of the year.

▪ Dunkin Donuts, 17701 E. 39th St., Independence. No opening date was available.

▪ Dutch Bros Coffee, 1733 E. North Ave., Belton; 11311 Shawnee Mission Parkway in Shawnee; the northwest corner of Kansas 10 and Ridgeview Road in Lenexa; and 11220 S. Lone Elm Road in Olathe. No opening dates were available.

▪ The Halal Guys: New area franchisee has signed one location in the Liberty area and is still looking in midtown, Westport and other areas in the metro.

▪ IHOP, 11111 W. 95th St. Overland Park, for September, and 2909 Burlington St., North Kansas City, for the fall.

▪ Jet’s Pizza, Michigan-based chain plans to open Kansas City area locations.

▪ Johnny’s Tavern, 716 W. Foxwood Drive, Raymore. Hopes to open by the end of the year.

▪ Joy Wok Super Buffet Hibachi Sushi, plans to open a new location at 8406 Wornall Road in November.

▪ La Fuente Mexican Restaurant and La Fuente Mexican Street Food: Two new buildings on Missouri 291 near Liberty for mid-2022 openings.

▪ LongHorn Steakhouse, 9770 N.W. Prairie View Road. Late summer or early fall.

▪ Martin City @Lenexa, 8802 Renner Blvd. in Lenexa, is scheduled to open in July.

▪ Meddy’s Mediterranean Eatery & Craft Bar, Corinth Quarter, 4105 W. 83rd St., Prairie Village. Late summer opening.

▪ Meshuggah Bagels, Valley View Shoppes, Missouri 152 and Booth Avenue. Late fall opening.

▪ Messenger Coffee Co. and Ibis Bakery, Prairiefire, 135th Street and Nall Avenue, Overland Park. Fourth quarter 2022 opening.

▪ Perry’s Steakhouse & Grille, Town Center Plaza, in a new building on the north side near Hereford House. An early 2024 opening is scheduled.

▪ PT’s Coffee Roasting Co., 8139 Metcalf Ave., Overland Park. Plans are still on hold.

▪ Puttery, 4641 Jefferson St., indoor, high-tech mini golf course with bars and lounge areas. No opening date was announced.

▪ Scooter’s Coffee, 10301 Metcalf Ave., Overland Park, with a drive-thru. July opening.

▪ Serv, entertainment complex, 91st Street and Metcalf Avenue, Overland Park. Food operators, bar, coffee kiosk, pickleball and more. Fall opening.

▪ Stockyards Brewing Co., 10310 Mastin St., Overland Park. No opening date was available.

▪ Taco Bell, 7601 Metcalf Ave., Overland Park. Second quarter 2022 opening. Another one is in the works for 15881 Metcalf, along with a Scooter’s Coffee shop.

▪ Taylor’s Donuts, 1827 Louisiana St., Lawrence. June or July opening.

▪ Texas Roadhouse, 97th Street and Metcalf Avenue, Overland Park. No opening date was available.

▪ 39th Street Brewery, 1320 W. 39th St. No opening date was available.

▪ Ting’s Filipino Bistro, 1803 W. 39th St. Repairs to the space have pushed the opening date back to summer.

▪ Transport Brewery, 131 E. Main St., Gardner. Fall opening.

▪ Vine Street Brewing, 18th & Vine Jazz District. September opening scheduled.

▪ Wall to Wall Wine and Spirits, 207 N.E. Englewood Road. Hy-Vee will convert its grocery store into its new liquor store concept which will carry specialty food products and high-end barware. No opening date was available.

▪ Whataburger:

Summer openings: 1921 W. Foxwood Drive in Raymore; 11300 Nall Ave. Overland Park; Metro North Crossing, 400 N.W. Barry Road; Bluhawk, 7791 W. 159th St., Overland Park.

Fall: 95Metcalf, 9505 Metcalf Ave., Overland Park, and 5630 Bannister Road.

2023: 14123 W. 135th, Olathe (near Menards), 9100 block of Missouri 45, Parkville, and Missouri 152 and North Booth Avenue (near Liberty).
