Michigan’s Jet’s Pizza, which serves a Detroit deep dish pizza, is expanding to several new markets including the Kansas City metro.

Specialty pizzas include the Aloha BBQ chicken (with barbecue sauce, pineapple and bacon), the All Meaty (with pepperoni, ham, bacon, Italian sausage and hamburger), and the Buffalo Ranch chicken (with Jet’s branded ranch sauce and mild Buffalo sauce). Customers also can build their own pizzas.

The dough is prepared fresh daily, and its premium mozzarella is freshly grated. Vegetables are cut by hand, and sauce is made with fresh vine-ripened tomatoes, and Jet’s proprietary spice and herb blend.

Other menu items include wings, “boats” which are like calzones, salads and chocolate chip cookies.

The majority of the locations are designed for just pickup or delivery, with no indoor seating. They will have online ordering, text to order or use a third-party site for delivery. Total digital sales were up by 37.2% in 2021, compared to 2020, the company said.

“It’s truly incredible to see the love for our brand grow. People appreciate quality, and that’s what sets us apart,” John Jetts, president of Jet’s America Inc., said in a statement. “We continue to have new franchisees who want to be part of this era of growth. Last year we had 294 new applicants want to open up their own Jet’s Pizza.”

He founded the company with his brother, Eugene, as Jetts Party Shoppe and Pizzeria in 1978 in Sterling Heights, Michigan. The company currently has nearly 400 restaurants in 19 states.

It plans more than 30 new locations in 2022 in such cities as Austin, Chicago, Denver, New York City and Phoenix. An area franchisee will open one on the Kansas side of the metro, but no city or location was announced.

The Kansas City metro is getting several new places to grab a slice. Marco’s Pizza is opening in Shawnee this month. Martin City Brewing Co. plans a Lenexa location in May, and a new sister concept, Station 7, near Lake Lotawana later this month. Waldo Pizza also has opened express operations in grocery stores in Blue Springs and Overland Park.
