Kansas City is about to get 2 competing indoor mini golf complexes with bars, lounges
Puttery, an indoor, high-tech mini golf course with bars and lounge areas, is coming to the Country Club Plaza area.
Dallas-based Drive Shack Inc., a leading owner and operator of golf-related leisure and entertainment businesses, said Friday it will open the venue in a 23,600-square-foot space on the lower levels of the former Jack Henry building. It will be next to a planned Kansas City Chiefs themed fitness center.
No opening date was announced for the location 4641 Jefferson St.
But it won’t be the first to the Kansas City market.
Sinkers Lounge, a local company, hopes to open a mini golf complex and cocktail bar concept Friday in the Power & Light District, at 53 W. 13th St.
On its website Sinkers says, “Welcome to the only place in Kansas City where you can enjoy a leisurely round of indoor mini golf paired with a craft cocktail.”
Puttery said it would provide details on the themes for the nine-hole course at a later date.
“Kansas City’s consistent stream of tourism and avid sports fans coupled with its rapidly growing roster of corporate headquarters make it the ideal spot for our 10th Puttery venue,” Hana Khouri, Drive Shack’s president and chief executive officer, said in a statement.
Menu items will include pizzas, salads, a variety of appetizers (including edamame, beef sliders, fire shrimp, veggie potstickers and tuna tostadas), and ice cream sandwiches.
It currently has locations in North Carolina and Texas. Other locations are in the works.
Officials with Drake Development, redeveloper of the Jack Henry building, couldn’t be reached Friday for comment.
Denver-based Punch Bowl Social, a similar entertainment concept but with bowling and other games, had planned to open in the building. But after filing for bankruptcy more than a year ago, it put those plans on hold. Its lease was later terminated, according to the landlord.
The building previously housed a clothing store and the longtime bar and restaurant Tomfooleries. Jack Henry was the name of an 83-year-old clothing store that shuttered there in 2014.
Chiefs Fit, a new Kansas City Chiefs-themed fitness club, will span two floors and the rooftop of the building.
