Fareway Meat Market expanding to Johnson County with farm-fresh produce, sushi & more
Iowa-based Fareway Stores Inc. is expanding with another metro location.
It plans a groundbreaking Thursday for a 7,400-square-foot Fareway Meat Market at 13430 W. 151st St. in Olathe. A spring 2022 opening is scheduled.
The grocery store, which will have 20 to 30 employees, will have a full-service meat counter offering fresh high-quality meats, seafood and sushi options, artisan cheese, farm-fresh produce, dairy departments and prepared foods.
Per Kansas liquor laws, it cannot sell craft beer, wine and spirits like the south Kansas City store. However, Fareway said it will soon have an announcement about an adjacent development “that will complement our meat market.” It declined to comment further.
Fareway Meat Market stores also offer several weekly specials such as this week’s KC strips for $9.99.
Fareway purchased mainstay McGonigle’s Market in south Kansas City in early 2020 and converted it to the Fareway Meat Market brand in March 2020.
Fareway has 129 stores in Missouri, Iowa, Illinois, Minnesota, Nebraska and South Dakota.
