Thai fried chicken tacos, cocktails. This restaurant is adding a 2nd Kansas City spot

Tiki Taco

After nearly five years on 39th Street’s “restaurant row,” Tiki Taco is expanding with another location, on Troost Avenue.

Tiki Taco opened in mid-2017 at 1710 W. 39th St. with just a walk-up menu. But new owners recently took over — brothers Lyndon and Lindsey Wade and their mother, Judy Rush.

They added a dining room with a “beachy 1980s/1990s vibe” and seating for 45 people.

Now they are remodeling a building at 5400 Troost Ave., near Rockhurst University and the University of Missouri-Kansas City, for a new location. Coffee Break also operated in the spot.

A June opening is scheduled.

Tiki Taco also has a new menu, including Thai fried chicken tacos and Thai chili pork burritos, along with vegetarian and vegan options including a jackfruit taco and “Mean Bean” burrito (with crispy fried green beans, black beans, curly fries, guacamole and sour cream in a spinach tortilla), along with desserts such as a cheesecake chimi and cocktails.

The new owners also own The Guild event space and the Paradise Garden Club, an urban plant nursery — both in the East Crossroads.
