Locally owned Johnny’s Tavern is going through Raymore planning for its 13th restaurant and bar.

The proposal was approved Tuesday, and now the company will need a building permit for the new 7,500-square-foot freestanding restaurant at 716 W. Foxwood Drive, in the Raymore Market Center near Price Chopper. It hopes to break ground by April and open by October.

Johnny’s Tavern has a dozen sports bars in the metro, Lawrence and Topeka. The owners said they liked the growth in the Raymore area in Cass County.

“This would be our lucky 13th,” said Louie Riederer, partner in Johnny’s Tavern.

The menu includes wings with a variety of sauces, entree salads, specialty burgers, sandwiches and wraps, tacos, shrimp platters, and stone oven pizzas.

Johnny’s traces its history to 1953 when John Wilson opened a tavern in a former Lawrence tractor operation. It is now the north Lawrence Johnny’s Tavern.
