Woman dead after she was found shot in Kansas City home late Monday, police say
A woman is dead following a shooting Monday night in Kansas City, according to police.
Officers responded just before 11 p.m. to the 3400 block of East 54th Street, where they found a woman shot and unresponsive inside a home, said Officer Alayna Gonzalez, a spokeswoman with the Kansas City Police Department.
Emergency medical crews pronounced the woman dead at the scene.
A male person of interest was taken into custody near the scene. Detectives are not seeking any additional persons of interest.
The killing was the 111th homicide in Kansas City this year, according to data tracked by The Star, which includes fatal police shootings. At this time last year, there had been 87 homicides.
