Update: Police on Monday identified the victim as 16-year-old JaMarcus D. Lane Jr., of Kansas City, Missouri.

Kansas City, Kansas, police were investigating after a teenager was found dead of gunshot wounds inside a house on Friday afternoon.

Officers were dispatched around 2:40 p.m. to a reported shooting in the 3100 block of West Barker Circle, Officer T.J. Tomasic, a department spokesman, said in a statement. The teenager, whose age was not immediately disclosed, was dead when the officers arrived.

The fatal shooting marks the 12th homicide in Kansas City, Kansas, so far this year, according to data maintained by The Star.

The fatal shooting was being investigated by Kansas City, Kansas Police Department’s Major Case Unit. Police were asking anyone with information to contact the TIPS Hotline at 816-474-TIPS.
