Woman found dead in Kansas City home after Monday night shooting, police say

A woman died following a shooting Monday night in Kansas City.

Officers responded just before 11 p.m. to a residence in the 2600 block of Lawn Avenue, where they found an unresponsive woman in a home who appeared to be shot, according to a news release from Sgt. Jake Becchina, a spokesman for the Kansas City Police Department.

Emergency medical crews declared the woman dead at the scene.

Officers detained a person of interest at the scene, and detectives are not looking for other suspects at this time.

This was the 106th homicide in Kansas City this year, according to data tracked by The Star, which includes fatal police shootings. There had been 81 killings at this time last year.
