One dead, two in critical condition following related shootings in Kansas City
One person is dead and two are in critical condition following two shootings early Thursday in Kansas City’s east side.
Police believe the two shootings, which happened within a few blocks of each other, are connected, said Officer Donna Drake, a spokeswoman for the Kansas City Police Department, in a news release.
Officers responded just before 2:15 a.m. to the 700 block of Lewis Avenue, where they found a victim suffering from gunshot wounds outside a home.
Around the same time, officers were also called to a shooting scene at the Express Stop at 8501 Winner Road, about a half a mile away. At the gas station, they located two people suffering from gunshot wounds.
Emergency medical crews declared the person at Lewis Avenue dead at the scene. They transported the two people found at the Express Stop to a hospital in critical condition.
Officers detained a subject of interest and aren’t looking for additional parties at this time, Drake said.
This was the fourth homicide in Kansas City this year, according to data tracked by The Star. There had been three killings at this time last year.
