Kansas City, Kansas, police were investigating a Wednesday evening shooting in the Northeast district that left one man dead.

Police officers were dispatched around 6:30 p.m. to a reported shooting in the 1900 block of North Eighth Street, Officer Jovanna Cheatum of KCKPD said in a statement Wednesday night.

One gunshot victim, described as an adult male, was found inside a residence there, Cheatum said. Responding officers attempted life-saving measures at that time.

The man was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The KCKPD Major Case Unit was investigating the homicide. Further details were not immediately disclosed by police.

The killing marks the 16th in Kansas City, Kansas, so far in 2023, according to data maintained by The Star. In 2022, the city saw 40 homicides.
