Person found dead after fire engulfs RV outside of home in Blue Springs
Update: Blue Springs police said Friday afternoon that the case was being investigated as a homicide as the death was “not likely due to fire.”
One person was found dead after a fire swept through a motor home early Friday outside a home in a Blue Springs neighborhood, a police spokeswoman said.
Firefighters with the Central Jackson County Fire Protection District responded shortly after 12:30 a.m. to the blaze in the 1200 block of Southwest Morningside Drive, said Jennifer Brady, a spokeswoman for the Blue Springs Police Department.
The first arriving fire crews reported that flames had fully engulfed the Class A motor home, which was parked in the driveway of a home in the neighborhood, said Chip Portz, chief of community risk reduction for the Central Jackson County Fire Protection District.
While battling the fire, firefighters found a deceased person inside the large RV, he said.
The person’s death is being investigated as suspicious until the Missouri State Fire Marshal and Blue Springs police can determine whether it was accidental or criminal. The Jackson County Medical Examiner’s Office will conduct an autopsy to determine the cause of death.
The RV was a total loss.
