Man found dead in parking lot of Independence business early Thursday, police say

A man was found dead early Thursday in an Independence parking lot, according to police.
Officers responded around 2 a.m. to a business in the 9800 block of eastbound U.S. 40 Highway, where they found a man in the parking lot who had been shot to death.
A suspect fled the scene before officers arrived, police said. Detectives spoke to witnesses and are trying to determine what led to the shooting.
The incident was the fourth homicide in Independence this year, according to data tracked by The Star.
