1 dead and 1 in police custody after Kansas City, Kansas stabbing on Friday afternoon

Kansas City, Kansas, police were investigating a stabbing that left a woman dead on Friday afternoon.

Officers were dispatched shortly before 2 p.m. to the 700 block of Nebraska Avenue on a report of the assault, Officer Jovanna Cheatum, a department spokeswoman, said in a statement.

Cheatum said the woman was dead of her wounds when the officers arrived.

A man was taken into police custody in connection. The department’s Major Case Unit was handling the homicide investigation.

Further information about the killing was not immediately available from police.

The stabbing marks the 14th homicide in Kansas City, Kansas, so far in 2023, according to data maintained by The Star.
