Two shot and killed Wednesday night on Kansas City’s East Side, police say

A man and a woman were fatally shot Wednesday night in Kansas City’s East Community Team South neighborhood, according to police.

Around 9:30 p.m., officers were dispatched to the 5200 block of East 28th Terrace in response to reports of the sound of gunfire, Capt. Corey Carlisle, a KCPD spokesman, said at the scene. Responding officers then found the two gunshot victims, a man and a woman, inside a vehicle in a driveway, Carlisle said.

Officers provided medical aid to the female shooting victim, Carlisle said, but both were declared dead on scene once emergency medical personnel arrived.

Homicide detectives were called to the block on Wednesday night to search for any potential witnesses as crime scene personnel processed the shooting scene for evidence.

Carlisle said the events that led up to the shooting were not immediately known. Police also did not have any information regarding a suspect.

The killings mark the 17th and 18th homicides in Kansas City so far in 2023, according to data maintained by The Star. Last year, the city saw 171 homicides, marking the second deadliest year in its history.

Kansas City police were asking anyone with information about the case to call homicide detectives at 816-234-5043 or report information anonymously through the TIPS Hotline at 816-474-TIPS.
