Kansas City restaurant updates for June: More Whataburgers, an oyster bar, gelato

Here’s our monthly update of Kansas City area restaurant, coffee shop and brewery openings and what will be coming soon.

Among the recent openings: Bella B’s Kitchen in Raytown, Earl’s Premier in the Brookside area, QZ Poke & Ramen in the Legends Outlets Kansas City and Roots Seasonal Cuisine in Lee’s Summit.

Patrick Mahomes’ KMO Burger will open its first Whataburger location on June 7 in Kansas City, Kansas, and it announced one more location for the Northland.

But many restaurant openings have been pushed back because of staffing and supply chain issues.

▪ Twisted Tango Frozen Yogurt, 211 N. Cedar St., Belton.

Closing

▪ Baskin-Robbins, 7628 State Line Road, Prairie Village. The chain’s Facebook page lists it as temporarily closed, and a spokesman for the company had it listed as temporarily closed. But the landlord is “reviewing several different options for the space.”

▪ Old Wok, Shoppes at Shoal Creek, 8702 N.E. Flintlock Road. It is relocating to 200 N.E. Barry Road.

▪ Queen Priscilla’s, 809 W. 39th St. The website says “now closed forever.” The owner did not return phone calls.

▪ Acre restaurant, Parkville Commons, 6325 Lewis St., Parkville. July opening scheduled.

▪ Andy’s Frozen Custard, Bluhawk, 7781 W. 159th St., Overland Park, for July. Another is planned for the northwest corner of 115th Street and Nall Avenue in Overland Park’s Galleria 115, for late November.

▪ Annedore’s Fine Chocolates, 11007 Johnson Drive, Shawnee. Hopes to open later this month.

▪ Barrio Mexican Kitchen + Bar, The Village at Briarcliff, 4125 N. Mulberry Drive. June 22.

▪ The Block 15 Tavern & Exchange, 311 Delaware St., Suite 102. Hopes to open by July 4.

▪ Brix Latin American Cuisine, 4112 Pennsylvania Ave. No opening date was available.

▪ 7 Brew Coffee, multiple locations including Blue Springs, Independence, the Northland, Lee’s Summit, and in Overland Park at 11007 Metcalf Ave. and 8001 Santa Fe Drive. No opening dates were available.

▪ Shagans, Indian restaurant, 8436 Ward Parkway. Summer opening. It also has an Overland Park location.

▪ Summersalt Ice Cream Co., Ranch Mart North, 3808 W. 95th St., Leawood. by mid-June.

▪ Taylor’s Donuts, 1827 Louisiana St., Lawrence. June or July opening.

▪ Ting’s Filipino Bistro, City Market, 405 Main St., hopes to open by June 22, and 1803 W. 39th St. for August.

▪ Tiki Taco, 5400 Troost Ave., mid-to-late June opening.

▪ Twin Peaks, 8660 N. Boardwalk Ave. Summer opening.

▪ Twisted Fresh, Streets of West Pryor, 940 N.W. Pryor Road, Suite A, Lee’s Summit. Opening June 27.

▪ Whataburger, 10780 Parallel Parkway, Kansas City, Kansas, just north of the Legends Outlets Kansas City, plans to open at 11 a.m. June 7.

▪ Chicken Salad Chick planned a summer opening in Lee’s Summit. A spokeswoman for the chain said: “Due to unforeseen circumstances, the brand has had to delay this restaurant location and will no longer be opening in Lee’s Summit this year.”

▪ City Club Apartments, 1989 Main St. Chef Howard Hanna plans to open two operations — Afi natural wine bar and Small Axe modern diner — on the first floor of the apartments. September openings.

▪ The Crack Shack, 9292 Metcalf Ave., Overland Park. Early 2023.

▪ Dave’s Hot Chicken: A new franchisee plans 10 area locations with the first opening by the end of the year.

▪ Dunkin Donuts, 17701 E. 39th St., Independence. No opening date was available.

▪ The Halal Guys: New area franchisee wants to open at 8702 N.E. Flintlock Road in the Liberty area and is still looking in midtown, Westport and other areas in the metro.

▪ Hawaiian Bros Island Grill, Metro North Crossing, U.S. 169 and Barry Road. Construction has started but no opening date was available. It also has taken out a permit for a location at 11928 S. Strang Line Road in Olathe.

▪ IHOP, 11111 W. 95th St. Overland Park, for September, and 2909 Burlington St., North Kansas City, for the fall.

▪ Jet’s Pizza, Michigan-based chain plans to open Kansas City area locations.

▪ Johnny Kaw’s Outback, 4124 Pennsylvania Ave. 2023 opening.

▪ Johnny’s Tavern, 716 W. Foxwood Drive, Raymore. Hopes to open in late October.

▪ Puttery, 4641 Jefferson St., indoor, high-tech mini golf course with bars and lounge areas. No opening date was announced.

▪ Serv, entertainment complex, 91st Street and Metcalf Avenue, Overland Park. Food operators, bar, coffee kiosk, pickleball and more. Fall opening.

▪ Stockyards Brewing Co., 10310 Mastin St., Overland Park. Late 2022.

▪ Strang Chef Collective at Lightwell, 1100 Main St., Suite 101. October opening.

▪ Strang Reserve, 8020 Marty St., Overland Park. A 7,000-square-foot event space catered by the chefs at Strang Hall. Late 2022 opening.

▪ Taco Bell, 7601 Metcalf Ave., Overland Park. Second quarter 2022 opening. Another one is in the works for 15881 Metcalf, along with a Scooter’s Coffee shop.

▪ Texas Roadhouse, 97th Street and Metcalf Avenue, Overland Park. No opening date was available.

▪ 39th Street Brewery, 1320 W. 39th St. No opening date was available.

▪ Transport Brewery, 131 E. Main St., Gardner. Fall opening.

▪ Via 313 Pizza, 9292 Metcalf Ave., Overland Park. No opening date was available.

▪ Vine Street Brewing, 18th & Vine Jazz District. September opening scheduled.

▪ Wall to Wall Wine and Spirits, 207 N.E. Englewood Road. Hy-Vee will convert its grocery store into its new liquor store concept which will carry specialty food products and high-end barware. No opening date was available.
