Kansas City area restaurant, brewery, coffee shop updates: August openings, coming soon

Here’s our monthly update of restaurant, coffee shop and brewery openings, closings and what will be coming soon.

Some openings have been pushed back as restaurateurs struggle to find enough employees, and others wait on back orders for construction materials and restaurant equipment as manufacturers gear up from pandemic shutdowns.

The Hungry Hatch, City Market, 23 E. Third St.

KC Mac N’ Co., Parlor food hall, 1707 Locust St.

Keisha Kandi Apples, 809 W. 39th St., Suite 150.

Nekter Juice Bar, Corinth Quarter, 4061 W. 83rd St., Prairie Village.

Port Fonda, Westport, 4141 Pennsylvania Ave. It has reopened under new owners. Currently Tuesday through Saturday nights only.

Shagan’s, serving Northern Indian cuisine at a counter inside Midtown Market at 3967 Main St.

Closing

Boulevard Bakery & Pastries, 2815 Independence Ave. Closing Aug. 14.

Ravenous, Parlor food hall, 1707 Locust St. It was a temporary spot. Chef/owner Michael Corvino is looking to open multiple locations.

Smokeys on the Blvd BBQ, 8669 W. 135th St., Overland Park.

Smokin’ Joe’s Bar-B-Q & Catering, 519 E. Santa Fe St., Olathe.

Stroud’s Express, SummitWoods Crossing, 1736 N.W. Chipman Road, Lee’s Summit. It plans to relocate in Lee’s Summit with a full-service restaurant.

Coming soon

Andy’s Frozen Custard plans to open at 7858 Wornall Road later this month; in Prairiefire, 5821 W. 135th St., Overland Park, in September; and at 4029 S. Noland Road, Independence, in November.

Chartreuse Saloon, Crossroads, 1627 Oak St. Hopes to open by the end of the month.

Chewology, 900 Westport Road. Relocating from Lenexa Public Market. August opening.

Nighthawk (formerly going under El Gold and then Cellar Bar), Hyatt’s Hotel Kansas City, 1228 Baltimore Ave. Early September.

Oddly Correct, 4141 Troost Ave. Relocating from Main Street with a planned summer opening.

Off the Hook BBQ, 115 Main St., Parkville. Hopes to open later this month.

River Bluff Brewing, 201 Main St. The brewery, which was founded in St. Joseph in 2018, is expanding to the River Market. Hopes to open in late August or early September.

Scratch Gourmet Express & Catering, 3935 W. 69th Terrace, Prairie Village. Late August.

The Snack Shack on Santa Fe, 6018 Johnson Drive, Mission. Late summer.

Transit Coffee, 3940 Main St. Plans an August opening in Oddly Correct’s former location.

Westport Fish & Chips, 431 Westport Road. By the end of the month.

Wing Stand by Jefferson’s, 5438 Johnson Drive, Mission. Sept. 1 opening.

Coming later

Chick-fil-A, 95Metcalf, 95th Street and Metcalf Avenue in Overland Park. Early 2022.

Chick N Max is looking for area franchisees and hopes to have one Kansas City area location open in early 2022.

Chicken N Pickle, Prairefire, 135th Street and Nall Avenue, Overland Park. October opening.

Chicken Salad Chick hopes to open in Lee’s Summit in 2022.

City Club Apartments, 1989 Main St. Chef Howard Hanna plans to open two operations — a natural wine bar and modern diner — on the first floor of the apartments. No opening date was available.

Crumbl Cookies, Ward Parkway Center, 8600 Ward Parkway, Suite 1018, by Trader Joe’s. Early 2022 opening.

Dunkin Donuts, 17701 E. 39th St., Independence. Fall opening.

Fareway Meat Market, 13430 W. 151st St., Olathe. Spring 2022.

Fazoli’s, 335 E. Russell Ave., Warrensburg. Fall opening.

54th Street Grill & Bar, Zona Rosa, 7200 N.W. 86th Terrace, is rebranding to 54th Street Restaurant & Drafthouse and expanding with an outdoor entertainment area. Work is expected to be completed in the fall.

Flip’d by IHOP plans a Lawrence location for 2021.

Front Range, 400 E. Gregory Blvd. Fall opening.

Gus’s World Famous Fried Chicken plans a Lee’s Summit restaurant for early 2022 and a Northland location in late 2022.

The Halal Guys: New area franchisee plans five locations and is currently looking at the Crossroads and Westport.

Johnny Kaw’s Outback, 4124 Pennsylvania Ave. 2022 opening.

La Fuente Mexican Restaurant. New building on Missouri 291 near Liberty for an early 2022 opening.

Sinkers Lounge, Power & Light District, 53 W. 13th St. Fourth quarter of this year.

Taco Bell, 7601 Metcalf Ave., Overland Park. Second quarter 2022 opening.

Taylor’s Donuts, 1827 Louisiana St., Lawrence. Fall opening.

Tin Roof, 424 Westport Road. Early December.

Tom Colicchio’s food hall, Mission Gateway, Johnson Drive and Roeland Drive, Mission. Project is on hold.

Unforked, Woodside Village, 4719 Rainbow Blvd., Westwood. No opening date was available.

Urban Egg, Hawthorne Plaza, 4921 W. 119th St., Overland Park. Fall opening.

Vine Street Brewing, 18th & Vine Jazz District. February 2022 opening.

Whataburger is opening in Blue Springs, Independence, Lee’s Summit and Overland Park later this year. Independence or Lee’s Summit will open first in the fall. It also plans to open in 95Metcalf South at 95th Street and Metcalf Avenue; Metro North Crossing for spring 2022; Kansas City, Kansas, by the Legends Outlets; and in Raymore.

Wienerschnitzel wants to return to the Kansas City market.
