An 8th Whataburger is in the works for the Kansas City metro. Is it near you?
Beloved Texas-based chain Whataburger now has a site picked out in Raymore for its eighth planned area location.
Jim Cadoret, development services director for the City of Raymore, said Whataburger has submitted plans for the former Golden Corral spot at 1921 W. Foxwood Drive.
It would tear down that building for a new 3,746-square-foot Whataburger with a double-drive thru. The site is near Lowe’s and Belton’s city limits.
Whataburger officials couldn’t be reached immediately for comment.
Back in 2018, Whataburger offered to send Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes some of his favorite ketchup and a T-shirt. He tweeted back, “I just want a store in Kansas City!”
But Whataburger was already scouting the market.
In June 2020, it was confirmed. Whataburger would be coming to the metro.
Whataburger restaurants are now scheduled to open by the end of the year in Blue Springs, Independence, Lee’s Summit and south Overland Park, with at least one opening this fall.
Whataburger restaurants also are in the planning stages for Metro North Crossing for spring 2022, for 95Metcalf in Overland Park and for Kansas City, Kansas, by the Legends Outlets Kansas City.
Real estate sources say Whataburger will most likely open eight to 10 locations at first, but the competition for area sites is heating up. Developers have snapped up some prime sites, hoping to lease the spots back to Whataburger.
