Fish and chips, fries and funnel cakes: New Kansas City restaurant opening soon

The owner of Westport’s Chick-in Waffle is opening a new restaurant next door.

Westport Fish & Chips plans a mid-July opening at 431 Westport Road.

It will have a short menu of fried cod, catfish, shrimp, housemade tartar sauce, french fries, coleslaw and funnel cakes. Fish can be ordered original or spicy.

It will share a kitchen with Chick-in Waffle.

Chick-in Waffle opened in early 2020, selling crispy chicken in fresh-off-the-iron waffles with a choice of eight signature sauces.

Owner Dennis Alazzeh added a sister restaurant, KC Smoke Burgers, a couple of months later. He closed the burger spot in the spring to make way for the new fish and chips operation.
