Sunday was not the day Kansas City had hoped for, as the Chiefs set out looking to secure their spot in NFL history. But after a slow start to the big game, fans got their hopes dashed in the second half when the Chiefs failed to to bring home the historic three-peat Super Bowl victory.

Excitement among fans had been boiling over ever since Kansas City defeated the Buffalo Bills in the AFC Championship at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium on Jan. 26, sending the Chiefs to their fifth Super Bowl in six years.

But that passion was paired with nervousness, especially after the Chiefs were trailing by double digits in the first half. If they had been able to pull out a victory, the Chiefs would have become the first team to win three straight Super Bowls — the elusive three-peat.

In the end, the Philadelphia Eagles denied the Chiefs the three-peat with a dominant defense in a 40-22 rout. The Eagles had been looking for redemption against the Kansas City, who beat Philadelphia 38-35 in Super Bowl LVII in 2023.

Seventeen-time Grammy Award-winner Kendrick Lamar headlined the halftime show. SZA also performed in the show, to the delight of many fans.
